I'm having a hard time understanding how they've totaled that based on photos supplied.

Sure, photos don't always tell the complete story [damage] but I don't see a totaled truck.

Is there frame damage and/or drivetrain damage?

this is what I am wondering too^^^ I can't see it from the photos either, even if there is drivetrain damage (assuming no frame damage) I would be hard pressed to say it is totaled still, however damage we can see+frame damage+drivetrain damage I could almost see it.

The [fine] line between totaling a vehicle and salvaging it is not parts [as many are led to believe] but labor.

When you get to hidden things like drivetrain and/or chassis/frame damage that requires repair and/or replacement, it's the labor involved that determines whether it's scrapped or saved.

Why? Because more often than not, the labor involved far outweighs the cost of parts required.

Very true. A $95 an hour labor rate can add up very quickly for serious repairs such as frame straightening, or drive train replacement.

Correct, Paul.

On top of that, when insurance companies are paying, it's not like a consumer is paying up front; body shops don't give insurance companies a break... just as they shouldn't.

Yep, I can attest to this. Had my roof fixed recently due to an over-zealous garage door. Parts were less than a grand. Labor was double that.

Oh and my Wife is an Insurance Underwriter and she says always, ALWAYS, negotiate. Never accept the first settlement offer. Supply receipts for all that aftermarket stuff and you should get some of it back.

Obviously, it is the other guy`s fault. His insurance company is in no position to negotiate. Get a good ambulance chasing lawyer and sue his insurance company. You should be repaid for your inconvenience and trouble. Here in GA you would be looking at a $75000 claim minimum easily. Most of these type of lawyers charge nothing if they can`t get what`s fair and equitable. I don`t know about CA, but in GA you are also entitled to depreciation. Good luck.

Holy moly. So sorry this happened to your truck! I agree with everyone else.. ride the insurance company until you get what is rightfully yours.. like that kid's a$$ on a silver platter, for starters.

Good luck with everything and keep us posted!
