Default Question about hitch

I just ordered my Ram. I decided that that I wouldn't get the factory hitch. I don't own anything that needs to be towed. If in the future I do decided to add a hitch. Does the Ram come with the wiring for the turn signals ect. I think it's called the 5 or 7 pin connector? Or will have have to install that as well. Not sure if that is standard equipment or if that only comes if you order the factory hitch.

Thanks

I am surprised you can even order a Ram PU with no hitch. IMHO. it is unwise to do so. The value of your truck will certainly be hampered with no hitch. After market hitches, if you add one later, do not have the same factory OEM look and may make spare tire use a hassle.

If you order the stock OEM Integrated Brake Controller, i believe everything else is ready for towing, except the Hitch Receiver itself & the Ball Hitch that fits into it & that can be added at anytime, look at the eTrailer website, http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2013_Ram_1500.htm
I believe the 7 & 4 trailer plug is on every Ram
I disagree with the above poster, the MOPAR hitch is built for them by another company like Hidden Hitch, CURT, or maybe Draw Tight

If i were to factory order a new Ram, i would get the HEMI engine with the Integrated Brake Controller,
8 speed transmission & because i live in a mild climate with not many hills, i would make sure it had at least a 3.55 ratio rear end, in case i wanted to tow something

Now if i lived in a colder climate, where there were a lot of bigger hills, i would lose a bit of MPG, but i would get the 8 speed transmission with 3.92 rear end & LSD for the snow & mud

One other thing that i would get would be a radio with at LEAST the 5" RA2 radio, because it at least has Bluetooth
the 3" RA1 radio does not have Bluetooth
the 8.4" RA3 radio does have bluetooth, but they will soak you to add Navigation
the 8.4 RA4 radio with Bluetooth comes with Navigation if it is something that you feel that you need

It makes no sense to me that trucks are even sold without hitches. I believe the wiring is already in your bumper, so all you should need is to add the hitch. Do yourself a favor and don't tow from your bumper. There were a couple of other members with 2014s looking to buy hitches for their trucks a few weeks ago who had found that nobody had a 2014 specific hitch. They bought 2013 hitches which fit the 2014s as there were no changes to that part of the frame from 2013 to 2014. Just so you know.

What's wrong with towing off the bumper? My truck doesn't have a hitch. I had to tow something once and used the bumper no problem. Pop out the plastic thingy and bolt on the ball. All trucks have at least a 4 flat connector. You can get an adapter for bigger trailers that need a 5 or 7 pin round connector.

Because you have a tow rating of a wheel barrow. A 4-pin to 7-pin adapter is just to allow you to use the lights and does not work for a brake controller system.

With any new Rams, you are gonna have to get the computer updated and a bunch of other crap to work with the brake controller. A lot of the stuff like the wiring should already be there, but as far as I have seen when settings up RV's with new rams, is that the new Rams 2013+ don't like aftermarket brake controllers and will really only work off the factory built in one.

If you do plan to tow aswell. Might want to look at a tranny and oil cooler. I don't know if it is stock on the Rams, as I have the tow package. I know my friends with chev's only have 1 rad compared to my 4 lol.

Canadian Hemi Pride answered you for me. Bumpers are not a good way to tow, and the max. tongue weight is ridiculously low.

Tent trailers aren't even recommended with bumper balls lol. We had a customer who had a S10 and said they had all hitching required.. So when I went and grabbed the truck and brought it in to hook up.. We had to inform them they would need a hitch to take their trailer.

Bumper balls also cause you to scratch your bumper and many other things.

Several of my uncles have the caved in license plate/bumper look going on their trucks. They all drive Chevys though so trying to get them to use a hitch is pointless lol.
