Default Which Shocks Give a Smoother Ride?

Like Lincoln Towncar smooth, but still able to handle rutted dirt roads?

Auto shop is talking Monroe Reflex, I'm wondering if he's right because he thinks we don't ever go off road. (it's not a 4x4 )

I have the 2009 SLT fully loaded, i always run with 700 pounds of tools in the bed

I was told that the 4600 Bilstein shocks would give me a better ride, i went with them & i am not impressed
the 2009 Rams have a strange mounting set up for the rear shocks, it was changed to a better set up a year or two later
The newer Rams are set up so that they can run the 5100 Bilsteins

All that being said, i would call or drop by your local 4 wheel parts store & see what they suggest, they seem to be well informed on shocks of different brands & types

Looking at the Monroe Reflex shocks, it is for a light highway truck
the Gas Magnum Shocks are more for light work trucks

I will say that the Bilstein 4600s are awesome, especially on rutted out dirt roads with lots of holes like I was on today. They make the truck feel very planted

i would start by looking at the tires and wheels. smaller wheel and larger tire will have more sidewall flex, smoothing out the ride a bit.

I was really hoping it wasn't a silly question.
We just got new tires, went a little wider.

So if I understand right, 2009's can't fit the Bilstein 5100, can fit the 4600's only?

Sorry, I must disagree. My 4 air bags make my 1500 feel like it's floating down the road not rolling.

IMHO the air ride doesn't ride better than the coils, the main thing it has going for it is the adjustability/leveling.

Bilstein makes 5100s for 2009 Rams, but only the 4wd models. They make 4600s for 2wds and 4wds though
