Default NEED help with truck, NEW TIRES ?

Hey Guys ,

I've got an 05 2500 dodge ram, i use the truck for hauling an excavator and skid steer. i would like to put new tires on and i was wondering what size i could get away with without any major suspension changes. and how much it would effect my capability to toe the equipment

Hey what kind of tires are you looking for? All terrain, mud terrain, all season?.. These all play a big factor, as generally with M/T's you will have wider tires, which limits height unless proper offset.

Just curious, are you from Hamilton Ontario?

Hey yah im actually from Dundas just on the outskirts .... i was looking at 35" all terrain tires. i want to keep at as cheap as possible considering it is a work truck. but i still want it to look good. my main concern was being able to tow with no issues

Oh nice nice.. I live at the mount hope/ hamilton boundaries. Spend most of my time out in Ancaster though at Tim Hortons at Duffs Corners lol.

But For the tires. I am going to do some searching for you and ask some people what the best 35" a/t is for the value and what size would work. You just running the stock rims?

If you are not running a leveling kit.. It would be best to stick with a 285/70/17 if stock. The best A/T tire for value looks to be the Toyo Open Country AT2. The link to the tires on the Toyo page is here.

i was looking to put some rockstar rims on, and was trying to avoid the levelling kit, i also have to make sure the tires are in load range E. and wont 285/70/17 look small on a 2500 ?

Ya they might look a little small, but if your running rims it can change that up then. You have a certain offset set in mind?

Here's the thing... You can have big tires or you can tow with no issues. You can't have both.... Putting bigger tires on your truck will make you lose power no matter what. There's no way around it.

At stock height you're better off staying with a tire closer to 34" tall. If you put on a full 35x12.5 you will most likely rub. Aftermarket wheels with the proper offset would help minimize that but you will probably still have issues. If you're dead set on running that big of a tire your best bet is to install a 2" leveling kit. It will give you the clearance needed but still leave a bit of rake on your truck.
