Default 2014 sport 5,7 hemi with 8 speed transmission

Just wondering how everyone is liking this truck. I have the 3.6 with the 8 speed tran's and love it, my son is going to the dealer friday to make a deal on the sport with the hemi and the 8 speed trans, any feed back would be great.

There's already more feedback written in this forum than you have time to read. You can search for just about any aspect of this truck and find hundreds of posts

Being a Ram forum, you're going to find mostly positive reviews.

If you specifically want to know about the Hemi, scroll down on the main page and their is a section devoted just to that particular power plant.

Good luck with the acquisition.

My only real complaint with my '14 Laramie Hemi is the MDS. It's a bit herky jerky when switching back to 8 cyl. Other than that, I'm happy. Gas mileage is not great, but it is what it is. I've got 5,500 miles and best tank so far has been 18 mpg with an overall average of 14.6. The 14.6 average does include some towing.

Ive had mine since Mon. so only have 150 miles on it. Very happy with it as it seems to get smoother the more its driven. I think I read where it does have a learning curve to suit how you drive. My MDS is seamless I cant feel anything. I do notice however compared to my 5spd work truck the 8 does not seem to let the engine wind out, it keeps the rpms under control for i guess more torque.

Is the 8 spd much quicker off the line?

I have a 2013 Sport with the 5.7L, 8 speed transmission, and 3.55 gears if you consider this relevant to your question. I average 18.5-19 mpg with mixed city and highway driving. I rarely get on it, so to speak, and generally drive casually. Also, I haven't noticed the MDS functioning under any driving circumstance.

I tow a light travel trailer (~3500 lbs loaded) and have no trouble with this powertrain combo in the mountains. If I ever decide to get a larger travel trailer (i.e. 7000 lbs+), I'll step up to a 3/4 ton in a 6.4L Powerwagon flavor.

Yes.

I test drove a 2012 with a 6 speed auto and the 3.55 gears in a Big Horn CC model.
From a dead stop stomped on the gas and even without the LSD, the one wheel turned only a squeek, even with TC off.
With the 2013 8 speed and 3.55 gears, even with the LSD and heavier Laramie 4x4 if you stomp the gas from a stop, both tires will spin easily (with the TC turned off).

The 8 speed has a much lower first gear ratio, so it leaps off the line much more eagerly.
