Default TPMS with New Wheels & Tires

Hello,

I'm planning to purchase a new tire/wheel set-up. Are the OEM TPMS connected by straps, or are they the valve stem type on the 2014s?

Also, I've read that the '14s are different than the '13. If I were to purchase the set-up for one of the big on-line tire retailers with the TPMS installed will they work or should I buy them separately? Will I need a sequencing tool?

Lastly, I've also read that you can deactivate the TPMS on the '14... due to running snow tires. Is this true as I cannot find this information in the manual?

The TPMS are the valve type. The 14s use a different frequency than the 13s. If you buy them with your tires from a tire place they should supply the correct ones. I would call them ahead of time to make sure they can get the correct ones in for when you buy the new tires. They will automatically sync with your vehicle after a few miles. If you take them off for snow tires/wheels the truck should stop warning you they are not working (Or missing) after 25 miles or so. It slips in to Winter tire mode automatically.

Thanks for the information. I was also thinking about just powder coating the OEM wheels black. Do you know if you can remove and reinstall the OEM sensors?

The 2014 sensors run on same frequency as 2013 but 2013 sensors don't work on 2014. Tpms sensors direct told me they work on some different protocols 2014 vs 2013. When I ordered my 2014 snow tire/wheel package at Discount Tire Direct they put OEM sensors from Dodge dealership on my order. Their system identifies the wrong sensors on my order but I emailed their customer service right away after they emailed my order confirmation. They fixed it before sending my order out. The cost of oem sensors from 2014 are cheaper than 2013 oem.

They are removable but when you start taking them off and on you run the risk of breakage. For as much as all that tire juggling is going to cost I would just get a set off eBay.

The 2014 tpms aremuch cheaper than 2013 TPMS. I think I googled some 2014 sensors from a Dodge dealer in USA at $29 piece plus shipping. In Canada I could get them from my dealer for $49 but 2013 were $80 plus I think.
The good is there cheaper in 2014 but the bad is the 2013 don't work with the 2014.

I was able to take the sensors off my 2014 stock wheels and put them on my aftermarket wheels with no issues. Everything works fine.
