Default Installing 5" Lift Kit

Hi. I'm looking to lift my '97 Dodge Ram with a 5" kit. It has an Automatic tranny with 318 motor and it is 4x4. Can someone enlighten me as to the "RAMifications" of doing this such as; level of difficulty, modifications to current vehicle parts. I just want to be sure I have my bases covered before I attempt this project!!! Thanks, Tom

It shouldn't be that difficult. For the front, you'll just need to replace the springs, control arms, trac bar, and possibly a drop pitman arm. If you need to change the pitman arm, you'll want a puller for that.

For the rear, you'll need either bigger lift blocks, or springs, depending on the kit.

I might have missed something, but these front ends are pretty simple. What kit are you going with?

Just curious what difference it would be from one kit to another?

I put a 5 inch rough country on my 2001 a while back. It comes with the drop pitman arm, and blocks for the rear. Everything was included except for the steering stabelizers which need to be replaced. I went with skyjacker dual steering stabelizers.

They look like they have different shocks than they had when I bought mine. Mine have a pretty rough ride.

I'm using the 5" Rough Country kit on my '97 Ram 1500 4x4. I'm just a little skeptical about what issues I may run into since this is a first. Also, I have to wait till better weather to accomplish this project.

Pretty simple install. I would rec having new control arm bolts at hand as they will break or have to be cut off. I had to replace the cam bolts and one upper bolt.
