Default 1500 vs 2500 bed size and cap review

I'm looking at a used bed cap for my 1500 outdoorsman. The one I found is from a 2012 2500 short bed (6 foot). I also have a 6 foot bed but I wanted to know if this cap would fit my truck.

It looks like a good deal but I'm just wanting to be sure before I make the purchase.

The cap is a Z series cap from A.R.E. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks!

Jay

You'll want to take some measurements. I've seen people round the #s, I think the bed sizes between the quad cab and crew cab are fairly close.

I have an ARE V series without side windows. Haven't had any issues with it.

Funny, I was just reading your post about your conversion.

From what little I can find they look like the same size. The cap is advertised fro $500 with carpeting and front sliding windows and such. I'll have to get it painted to match my truck but still looks like a good deal.

I just wouldn't have thought that it would be so difficult to find the size of our beds beyond the length...

The length is it but make sure to measure the right points. I think there are only about 6 inches difference in some of the beds, so if you're measuring the inside and they're measuring the outside you could have a problem..

I moved from a 2011 1500 bighorn 4x4 quad cab in march 2013 to a 2012 2500 bighorn hemi and took my hard shell bed cover to my new new truck.

If you have a quad cab it will fit. The bed is the exact same as a 2500

if you think about it, Dodge or Ram were not going to make 6 or 7 different beds for the same model & year

they used the same body stamps to make the 1500, 2500, & 3500 beds, doors, tailgates,
the hoods may be different & the grills

All quad cab beds for any given year, will be the same, like 4th Gen 2009 - 2012, maybe even the newer ones
All crew cab beds will be the same
All Mega cab beds will be the same
All 8 foot beds will be the same

dually trucks may be different ??

i think mostly the bed sizes will be
5' 7" , 6' 4", 8'

Always measure your bed from the front to the tailgate closed. You will find two sizes. 5'7" and 6'5" for 2012.
