A little late on the reply but I use rainwater for the wash and rinse. This is definitely soft water but you may also want to check the PH balance on the water first.

Fortunately I have 3 100 gallon barrels collecting the water. Now I would never use the water if it was coming off a new roof, too many oil by-products that have to be rinsed off the roof first.

Always remember to skim the first bucket off the top as this will probably have some floating debris.

Best way is 2 bucket method
1- clean water for rinsing
2- soap water (not dish soap, good quality vehicle soap)

Process once of twice a year
- before polishing or waxing make sure you clay the vehicle first
- another tip watch a few youtube videos on the following;
1) two bucket method of washing
2) How to clay a vehicle
3) how to dry a vehicle (avoid putting swirls in the pain and micro-scratches)
- using a few microfiber towels is the best with a quick detailer
tip: get the microfiber towel wet before trying to pick up water, it will absorb more if it's damp
- leaf blower works well, make sure it isn't dusty and only use electric (not gas powered because of the exhaust)
- careful with compressors as they have a lot of pressure and if not maintained will have rust in the tank from condensation
4) how to polish/compound (remove swirls)
- invest in a DA polisher for this step (the horror stories are from non professonials using rotary polishers... Larry Kosilla is a pro detailer and has a good saying for the two;
Rotary: scalpel, good in the right hands
Dual Action: butter knife (much safer)
5) how to protect the paint (sealant is the best)
6) wax (best protection and longest lasting is synthetic, best shine is carnuba or natural wax)

7) enjoy the vehicle

- I am on my second black vehicle now, not sure what I was thinking haha. Does look good when it's clean!

Instead of using a leaf blower, I use a California Car Duster Silicone Water Blade to shear the water off, then use a Microfiber Towel to remove the remaining water....been using it for about 5 years.

I would avoid using a water blade. Reason being is if on the off chance you missed some dirt (it happens) then the blade will just rub into the paint. Leaf blower is a cheaper option (one thing to be careful of is the air is not filtered). The more expensive option is a proper car dryer, if your willing to spend $200-$400. (Metro air blaster)

A couple things I might add. In addition to the 2-bucket wash already mentioned which is key, really for any vehicle, use 2- wash mitts. One for the lower panels and one for the upper panels, hood & roof as more grime tends to accumulate down low. Using 2-mitts lessens the chance of introducing some of the grime to the upper portions which are more visible. Also, to the water spots you can get a de-ionizing unit which attaches between your water supply and hose. But they typically do not come cheap, but for a perfectionist with $$ to spend, or a professional detailer it might not be a bad investment.

A good practice if you can wash in the shade when it isn't really hot, start top and work your way down. If it's hot then yes the two wash mitts would be the best as you have to work panel by panel to avoid having soap dry on the paint.
