Default PW Recall

Alright, not limited to just PowerWagons, but recall none the less. Left tierod ball joint. Says it affects late 2009-2012 trucks. Mine specifically says the tie rod end will be replaced (no inspection, etc). Just curious if any of you have got it. I dont have the sheet in front of me for the recall number.

I got mine in the mail Saturday I believe. I am at work at the moment so I don't have the paper in front of mine either. I didn't read through it just yet.

I got mine in the mail a few weeks ago. I just called two dealerships here in Jacksonville, FL, one of the service dept's didn't even pick up and the other one the service specialist said there was an 8 week back order on this part and took my name and number and said they'd call when the part was ready....8 weeks on recall part that has already caused multiple crashes and injuries???

I had the updated steering in my last truck, went through three sets that were all recalled. That picture is the left side tie rod end. Well known failure.. The angles in the steering put strain on this end, and if the tie rod doesnt travel perfectly flat you will snap off the shaft. There was a dent in the edge of the cup where it contacted the pin shown. Mine appears it was cracking for a while with progressive rust in the crack.

Made an appointment for my 2011 2 weeks ago. Took it in, the guy looked under the front and said I'll order the parts. Told him I thought it was a flat recall with replacement. He said there are 2 different tie rods one is fine, the other is the recall. Visually the difference is how the steering dampener is mounted. The recalled ones like mine are bolted to the tie rod, the non-recalled ones have a bolt that go through the tie rod in the fashion of a tie rod end. Told me they have over 30 ordered and only get maybe 1 in a week!

So I got my recall completed. I suggest you all get yours looked at. Mine turned into a nightmare!!

As they were seperating my left tie rod end from the knuckle for inspection it broke. Not pulling out of the socket, clean shear just below the threads! Rust shows the crack was already about halfway through the rod end. This leads to inspection of the the rest of the steering, long story short, lots of new parts.

New tie rod
New tie rod ends
New drag link
New drag link ends
New pitman arm
New drivers side knuckle

Thankfully my dealership did have all the parts in stock except the pitman arm (they fronted the cost for one at the local parts house). About 4 hours later I was back on the road. They didnt quite get the alignment right, but pretty damned close. Drives like new again, I didnt realise how much it had worn and got sloppy because it happened so slowly!

I doubt most of yours will be as bad as mine, but get the recall take care of. I wish I had got pictures, but my phone was in the truck (up on the lift). They kept all my old parts as a chrysler tech is on the way out to inspect them.

I ended up going to another dealership in Jacksonville and the service manager did the same thing with my truck...now just waiting for the call to take the power wagon in to get fixed...
