Default CAM yes/no?

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L, I have done basic add-ons (air, trinity tuner chip,headers/exhaust, and nitrous) but was looking to put a cam in it to get that extra umph out of it. Would this be something you would suggest?

Now IF it is a good decision... I am in the military stationed in Lemoore CA, if someone decently near me knows how to do this and would be willing to help me install it/install it there self I would pay you and greatly appreciate the knowledge on doing so. I am very mechanically inclined just never done anything like this before.

Headman LT headers w/ electric cutouts, Diablo Trinity tuner w/ custom tune, AFE intake, Circle D 3200 stall TC, ZEX 125 shot Nitrous, Air-Raid Throttle Body spacer, Super 44.

It all comes down to preference and money. You will get more hp and a nice sound from a cam. But you also have to remember the bigger the *lift* valve clearance and float will come into play. Anything over (I think .550) youll need bigger valve springs. I'm not sure on the specifics of your tuner but the truck would need tuned after.

Also about doing it yourself, if you never changed a cam, I would advise not doing it. Theirs a lot of steps and it will take between 5-10 hrs depending on how many beers you drink that afternoon

I would highly recommend a cam, one of the best mods I did to my '07. There are lots of different options for the 3Gs, and look at the lift on the cam, you may need to swap in the 6.1L springs or step up to the PSI 1511 (#?) springs. I would talk to some really good cam guys like Stu with Inertia Motorsports or Don at HHP, both top notch cam people.

NITROUS is considered a 'basic' add-on?

Seems a lot of folks LOVE inertia motorsports so I will more than likely go for their cam, should I go ahead and just drop a beast cam in there that REQUIRES the 6.1L springs. Like i said I am mechanically inclined but when it comes to rebuilding internals im a novice, im assuming i would get more out if I went with a Spartan Max and 6.1 intake/exhuast springs....I will give inertia a call today as well, does anyone think I would need to do the Nitro Cam since i run the bottle at the track/every now and then from light to light

Talk to the guys at Inertia and they will tell you which cam is best for what you have and what you're looking at doing.

Best idea is to talk with Stu about what you want to use the truck for. If it's going to be a daily driver with weekend warrior fun then be clear about that. You want the truck to be what you use it most for, or you start regretting mods, trust me I know. He can set up custom grinds as well, I had a srt max intake lobe with the rumbler exhaust lobe with a 112lsa for my nitrous setup.
