Default Are these common problems for a 2nd gen?

I just got my Ram and got her inspected/tagged and drove her for the first time that way today.

Upon filling her up, I found out the gas neck is leaking and that should be an easy fix I hope. My wipers turn on when I set the stalk to left blinker on, my speedo wasn't working at first and then started working and continued to work. She also leaks a little oil, it looks like it might be from the rear main, but I noticed this tube at the front of the motor that just dumps to the ground and it might be from that? I'm not sure what it is, it reminds me of a PCV hose, but this is my first diesel and I don't even know if diesels have that?

I was also wondering what the common problems are for this body style?

The tube you are talking about is the breather tube. It's normal to have some oil leaking from there. A lot of people re-route it further back on the truck.

Common problems with the 2nd gen trucks and 24v diesels include:
-stock lift pump going out and burning up your VP44 injection pump. You'll want to install an aftermarket lift pump like a Fass unit that keeps your pressure at 14+ psi at idle.
-53 block. Some of the 24v trucks hs cast in Brazil where the water jacket is thin and prone to crack. You'll see a 53 on the side of the block above the oil pan in 1" letters.
-Killer Dowel pin. Not as common on the 24v trucks, but has been known to happen. There is an alignment pin used when installing the timing case that likes to work its way out and crack the case. The fix is cheap.
-Front end parts such as ball joints, hubs, tie rod ends, etc wear out quickly.
-The 2nd gen Dodge dashes are junk. They are known to crack and disintegrate. Protect yours if it isn't already.
-The seat fabric likes to rip due to these trucks sitting up so high and passengers sliding out.
-Rust under the doors, fenders and cab corners is common if you live in an area where they salt the roads.

These are just some 2nd gen things. I hope I didn't scare you. I would get a fuel pressure gauge ASAP to make sure you don't kill your injection pump. They are cooled by fuel and if the fuel pressure is below 10 psi, they aren't getting cooled adequately.

Yeah, the filler necks rust out. Dorman makes a good replacement. Bought mine on Amazon for $40. I'm not a diesel guy, but alot of my friends at work have them. What they did is install a low fuel-pressure cut-off switch. If the lift-pump fails, the switch will cut-out, and save the much more expensive injector pump.
Also, the hub bearings are a shit design. Ford and Chevy use the same axles, but different hubs of their own design, and have nowhere near the failures that the Dodge hub bearing does.
