A common technique is to literally burn out the OEM rubber bushings. The metal parts (bushings, pins, sleeves etc) will not be damaged but may discolor. Just repaint them and grease the bolt threads.

In this photo (the smoke is TOXIC) we took a stout piece of aluminum and put a little puddle of lighter fluid to the c-arm contraption and melted/burned away the OEM rubber.
