The trust, called the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust,which was set up to pay medical costs of Chrysler's union retirees, has asked Chrysler to initiate proceedings for an IPO as part of a 2009 agreement that helped bring the Auburn Hills, Mich., car maker out of court protection.
Fiat had offered $139.7 million last year to buy 3.3% of Chrysler from the trust and this month proposed paying $198 million for another 3.3% stake. The trust responded to Fiat's suit over the initial 3.3% stake by asking for about $343 million.

Well at least with 60% Chrysler still had some kind of input.. Now it's just fiat no more Chrysler.. How can you feel like a man when you tell people you bought a fiat ram 1500.. Before we know it the rams gonna be down sized to a mid size truck and they will have a standard 4 banger motor.. The hole auto industry is going to shit with all this fuel economy stuff that's all people are worried about now days.. It's a truck build it tough ad reliable who give a crap about economy.. If y want milage get a car... I know I'm gonna get heat from this from some people. But that's my input on things... 8 speed trannys, air ride suspension, grill shutters... And enough sensors to line the Pacific Ocean... I got a 2012 so it still has the dodge name.. I'm scared to see what the future brings.. I'm a die hard dodge guy but I'm not to sure about this move..

The downside to this is that Fiat is losing market share in Europe and is not profitable, Chrysler is profitable and growing.

Fiat just increased its debt load some more and will now need the cash from Chrysler to survive if it doesn't improve in Europe and the world market.

Hopefully it won't be like Mercedes when they sucked Chrysler dry. Nothing good really ever came from that marriage except the 4th generation Ram.

good thing we bailed out chrysler to save detroit. my 11 says dodge on it and i am glad it does. hope my truck, the 2 wranglers, and our 2004 grand cherokee last a long time. most of you are too young to remember how fiat just left the country in the eighties and just left all their customers hanging for parts. been a dodge/jeep guy for a long time, but will consider gmc now.

Only time will tell if Fiat will drive Chrysler's name into the dirt. These Italians got to have some great engineers in their midst, especially if Fiat has shares in Ferrari and owns Maserati. To early to judge but I'm glad some of us are still holding on to a dying breed. I know now, I will do everything I can to keep my trouble free, 2012 Dodge Ram running for years to come. Knock on wood of course.
