you have to understand that the systems on our trucks are all electronic. turning on a light is not as simple as switch makes contact and sends power to the lamp. all functions are controlled and monitored by the BCM when it sees an over current situation it will turn off that function. all the switches on our trucks have a computer address assigned to them this is how the BCM knows what switch is being pushed. the BCM then sends power to the corresponding lamp, window motor, door lock, etc.

they know how much amp load each item should have...when you add something to it...the load changes..and the bcm sees it as a problem.
same thing for adding on a factory feature your truck did not come with.
the computer has to be prompted before the new feature will work.
you have to tell the truck you now have the item...
