Default Regretting my decison

I bought my 2012 last month. I was deciding between it:
Longhorn Laramie Limited 4x4 CC with 12k miles
Loaded except for Rear DVD and Ramboxes
3.55 Anti Spin
Fake 6 speed (same tranny as I had in my 2005)

and:

2014 Outdoorsman 4x4 CC
Cloth Seats
3.92 Anti Spin
8 Speed

I chose the 2012 because of the leather and gadgets.

Today I took my 2012 in for a Seat Cover replacement (warranty) for some odd wear. The dealer loaned me a 2014 off the New Car lot. Words cannot describe the difference in the way this truck drives compared to mine. The loaner had the 8 speed, Hemi, 3.21 anti spin.

Let me just say it felt like a Z06 Corvette compared to my truck. I am really feeling like I made the wrong choice. Not sure what to do, but I am really considering talking to the dealer about trading in.. My wife is not happy, but I keep my vehicles for 10 years or more. I don't want to regret my purchase for 10 freaking years. If I could just change the gears in the 2012 that would help. I think that will cost at least $2500 and I will still have that crappy fake 6 speed transmission..

Thoughts?

I don't think that new gears would make a huge difference in the performance, maybe 4.11's or 4.56's would. You are right though, it ain't going to be cheap to change gears in both the front and rear. I have the 6 speed and haven't had any problems--I think you just need to understand the limitations of that particular trans and realize that they will always be bringing out new products(the 8 speed trans)from time to time. I know that most of us always want something a "little" faster but it's still a truck and it still weights about 6k pounds. Did you ever think that the dealer may have given that particular truck to you as a loaner on purpose????? Just a thought

I will preface it with this. I am friends with the GM so they are taking really good care of me. They gave me a really good trade in value on my 2005 and then came way down on the price of the 2012. I am the one that decided to go 2012 (with some prodding from the wife) so I don't feel like the dealer is at question. My only issue is that I keep them for a long time. I just bought it last month and now am wondering if I will regret it for 10 years. I know they aren't race cars and it will only ever be "truck fast" But I also tow a boat and a heavy trailer too from time to time. Just thinking it would be much better for that. And if I want to put '37s on with a 6" lift, I think the 8 speed ratios would make that an easier pill to swallow from a driveability perspective.

Well there is something to be said for biting the bullett and moving forward with a truck you will be happy with long term. Of course it has to work out for you financially.

^^^^^^ I agree that if you can afford it maybe the newer truck would be the best answer for you. Your right about the gear swap--it's going to be expensive, and depending on the weight of your boat and/or trailer the 3.92's might be better suited for your use. I haven't driven an 8 speed yet so I'm not sure about the difference but from the threads you read a lot of people are really happy with the 8 speed/3.92 combination. If you put 37's on your truck you may even want to look for a set of at least 4.11's and maybe even 4.56's(depending on how much highway driving you do.)

I am telling you that the 8 speed with 3.21 could turn '37s pretty handily from a stop. Not sure how they would do on the top end. That 8 speed is a monster down low...

I would drive the 2012 for a couple years at least & see what Fiat N.A. has done to the old Chrysler brand

May you can then take your wife for a test drive in a brand new Fiat Ram

I am kind of trying to rush this since I really have not put many miles on the truck yet. I talked to the dealer and they are looking for another truck for me. I will have to see what they come back with. I sent my list of requirements and the things I would like to have that wouldn't be deal breakers if it didn't have...
