Default RHB Anti Theft Code?

I purchased an new RHB nav unit off eBay from a seller with huge positive numbers. No negative feedback, and he said in the listing to verify that it would work with my vehicle and may require a "code". I did the first part and made sure the unit part number would work in my 2012 Ram 1500 and missed the second part. I just contacted him (will get the unit on Monday) and asked what he meant by "code" he said it was the anti theft code. There is a number written on the back of the unit a letter followed by 4 numbers he is unsure if this is the code. If its NOT the code how hard is it going to be for me to get the anti theft code for the unit when it came out of another vehicle? Is this even something that I can do or did I buy a paperweight for $640? Im sure I can go through eBay to fix if thats the case since there is buyer protection on the unit. Just curious if there is anything the dealership can do for me? Thanks in advance.

You will need a VIN number of the "donor vehicle" to get the code, or the numbers on the radio if it is new. The dealer must activate the radio (retrieve the code) if it comes up locked. The only way to know for sure is plug it in and try it.

The Parts Dept. should have the code, take your new radio into them, along with your VIN# & they should be able to come up with the Code #
It may or may not be the same code # that they use when they have to Flash an upgrade into your Rams system, using a STAR SCAN tool

If they give you the Code #, write it down somewhere
I had the number in my hand & handed it to a Tech to Flash something into my Ram, sometime later i could have used that code to do an upgrade myself, but the Tech never gave me back the paper with the code written on it & i never thought to ask for it

He could have gotten the Lock Code before he sold it to you. Some dealerships will not retrieve the code for you unless you can prove it is not stolen. Some dealers may also charge for the code. I purchased a used radio off here and the seller provided me with the VIN. I then went to the dealer I purchased my new truck from and with the VIN and radio info they were able to get me the lock code. They did not charge me for this. Good luck

SO got it installed and sure enough it wanted the code. The number written on the back didnt work forward or backwards. I checked with the ebay seller and he does not have the VIN of the vehicle this came out of. Not sure what to do at this point?
