Default RHB Anti Theft Code?

I may have put this in the wrong section earlier this seems better. I purchased an new RHB nav unit off eBay from a seller with huge positive numbers. No negative feedback, and he said in the listing to verify that it would work with my vehicle and may require a "code". I did the first part and made sure the unit part number would work in my 2012 Ram 1500 and missed the second part. I just contacted him (will get the unit on Monday) and asked what he meant by "code" he said it was the anti theft code. There is a number written on the back of the unit a letter followed by 4 numbers he is unsure if this is the code. If its NOT the code how hard is it going to be for me to get the anti theft code for the unit when it came out of another vehicle? Is this even something that I can do or did I buy a paperweight for $640? Im sure I can go through eBay to fix if thats the case since there is buyer protection on the unit. Just curious if there is anything the dealership can do for me? Thanks in advance.

You will need a VIN number of the "donor vehicle" to get the code, or the numbers on the radio if it is new. the numbers are not on the radio housing. The dealer must activate the radio (or retrieve the code) if it comes up locked. The only way to know for sure is plug it in and try it. I have purchased many "new" RER, RHB, RER etc.. radios from Ebay, that had actually been installed in vehicles. Either way you can get it turned back on if needed.

So I would need the VIN of the vehicle it came out of? It still has the plastic on the front of the unit and it looks like this is a surplus buyer who sold this to me. I will ask him for the VIN of the vehicle it came out of, if he does not have that is there still going to be a way to activate it?

If it was installed and powered up in another car then you will need a VIN. If it is new you will need all numbers off of the stickers on the housing so they can flash your computer/ radio to work together. Again if it was installed and powered up in another vehicle then you must have a VIN, the numbers won't help.

There is still a chance that the radio might not need the anti theft code. Do you know if it was installed in something else? Do you know what year the radio is?

Here is all the info I have from them.

"You are bidding on the following:

1 New MyGig DVD Radio with Navigation.

Model: RHB P/N: P05091338AC

Was told that it was removed from a vehicle to upgrade its system and was never used.

Please do your homework to make sure this will work in your vehicle. This MAY OR MAY NOT require a code to activate it to your vehicle. Please inquire with your local dealer BEFORE bidding on this product."

I messed up and should have asked. Not sure what year see below for pictures of the item. I checked with the seller and he does not know the VIN of the vehicle that it came out of. Ok so worst case I dont know if it was turned on and I dont know the code, am I SOL and have to try and get my money back or is there still a chance that the Dodge dealership I bought my truck from would help me?

First question that comes to kind is if this is a high speed model? Did you double check the part numbers? If memory serves me correct the ram, caravan, and a few jeep models had a high speed can bus system, while all the other Chrysler, dodge vehicles had a low speed system. If this radio is a low speed it will not work if you need the high speed one.

Can you email the individual and ask if they have a VIN on file for the car they swapped it for? You might not be SOL yet. I have sold many of these radios and helped people install them to get them working properly. I am trying to research the number to find out all I can for you.

I did research it and it is for the high speed can bus system. I made sure of that first. I asked them about the VIN and they said they did not know. There ebay name is A-Plus sales so I think either a liquidation/surplus company or a pawn shop. I checked this site http://oemautopartsco.com/products/r...ion-radio-high
and if you look at the part numbers at the bottom for the high speed its listed.

Good I just wanted to make sure you got the right model. I have found through my sources that its a hit and miss on needing the code.
