Default looking at 2012 ram 2500

Hey, Im looking at a 2012 ram 2500 4x4 hemi, intended use would be mild towing, daily driver etc. I've browsed these forums and gathered alot of info of these, just checking in to see if there has been any new developments, ie: problems, upgrades etc

Thanks!

I have a 2012 Ram 2500 Crew Cab 8ft box and have been towing my 29ft travel trailer approx 9200lbs with no problem. I like the way it handles with the trailer behind it and i find it has a nice ride for a 2500. Hemi has plenty of power for a gas engine and will drink the gas when towing. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, yes it does help. Ill be towing a double horse trailer, probably weighs about 5000lbs with two horses, equipment and feed. I am kind of expecting it to suck gas lol, after all; it is a truck! Ill be keeping my current truck, cuz it has been WAY to good to me and I probably wont buy a new diesel, cant beat the ol 24V it'll be destined to haul the hay trailer in the fields lol.

I got a 2012 2500 bighorn hemi and it pulls great had to full a car back from VA on a flat bed hauler. it was almost like it didn't have anything behind it. if you can keep your foot out of it, you can get some decent mileage. I get about 15-16 round town and about 17 plus on the highway.

Handling with a trailer (that I don't have YET) is one of the reasons I got the 2500. Out here in Colorado goin' up and more importantly down with confidence is key. Not that a 1500 can't tow 9200 lbs, but I personally would not want to

BTW what gears do you happen to have?

Do you not have many stop lights in town? I get 11-12 in town

You're not gonna get 17+ on the highway. 15 is even pushing it in a Crew Cab 4x4. I get about 8-10 city and 13 and sometimes 14 on the highway and I baby it. It pulls awesome though. I tow a 9500lb travel trailer and truck FULLY loaded with people, dogs, and supplies quite a bit and have had no problems and it gets anywhere from 5-9 while towing depending on hills and wind. I would love to have a new Cummins but this Hemi does just fine and I can't afford the new diesels. They have a lot of maintenance costs with them too. I have 3.73's and 295/70/17 Nitto Trail Grapplers. My mileage went down about 1.5 mpg with the new tires. Wish mine came with 4.10's. If you don't mind getting bad gas mileage you will have no complaints.

I disagree. You can get 17 on the highway if you drive 60-65 mph. But yeah, it's a heck of a truck

Mine is Crew Cab, 8 foot box and 4:10, pull my 36 foot travel trailer all summer and I love the way it handles! Great truck, very comfy with great power, looks and performance!
