Default Engine swap from a 2006 ram 1500 to a 2006 ram 2500! Can it be done?

Junk yard that I'm trying to get a used engine from says it won't work! What's the difference in the engines? Mounts?

the blocks are identical for cars, Jeep, Rams from the 1500 up to the 5500 models for the same years.
2006 was the first year for the Ram to use the MDS in the 1500s, the MDS was not put in the 2500 - 5500 models, at least before the 2013 or newer Rams

the 1500 engine has MDS, therefore it uses a different camshaft & uses different sensors & a different computer or at least the programming

if you put a 2500 engine in a 1500, the computer firmware would be searching for input from the sensors & may be throwing a code
It could possibly be fooled by switching some sensors too

I don't believe that the engine not having the MDS equipment would throw a code
somewhere i read that some people have blocked off the lines that control the MDS, like the Air Line or using a tuner to stop it from working
You would need to research that some more, maybe on a Jeep site

Good Luck with your swap & keep others informed

To convert the 2500 non MDS engine to work in your 1500 with MDS, all you need are the cam, MDS lifters and the valley solenoids that control it. Reuse your original sensors and you should be golden.
