This comment shows you have no insight into either the decision making process involved in OE Manufacturing,
OR
the effect of vehicle aero changes and their effect on FE.

I have been part of the process of Product Development,
representing/advocating the fuel economy AND performance of future model programs.

I have seen arguments over whether or not to OK the funds for a $0.07 improvement on an engine (brass vs. steel distributor bushing).

The tonno is a 325$ option ... think about it.

So you're saying the tonneau provides little to no mileage improvements, over stock?

As well, lets face it, a simple tonneau could be outsourced and mass produced easily for under $100. Even at $325, if it actually saved you money, it would pay for itself eventually. Nevermind, looking kick-ass on the back of your truck, keeping your goods dry and safe.

truxedo has a gas saving calculator on their site. if it were 5% that might be 1 mpg which adds up over time, but you would only notice if you were meticulous in your logging of miles driven and fuel. i have a friend like that and if you want to prove a point it is the only way.

This is True.

Found this picture on Allpar.

Doesn't look like a tonneau is going to do much, if anything for fuel efficiency.

25mph? LOL

Tell you what...when my bed has snow in it, as soon as I get on the highway above 60mph there is enough turbulence to blow it all out in a mile. Can't see the traffic behind me.

contrair mon frere:
- Look at some pitiful exhaust designs and it negates "I'm sure the auto industry would be all over them".
- Turbos, Heads, better cam/valvetrain, Headers, free flow converter, tuners, etc. These are things that I have personal experience with (except turbo). Manufacturer chose other methods for cost savings and passed the buck of decreased MPG to the customer.
- Newer models are light years more efficient that just the stuff from the 90's... but there is always room for improvement.
