Default bed lights?

I'm pretty sure this has been talked about before but I don't think anyone ever did it.

I asked my service department if they could install some lights under my rails to light up the bed with the cover on it while they had it for other issues. I expected to pay about $100 or so for this and it be a simple install for them. Well, I told them to call me with a price before they did anything but of course they never did. When I picked up the truck I noticed they didn't do it so I asked about it and the tech told me he'd have to drill a hole for the wires into the cab. To me that sounds crazy and I assume he just didn't want to do it because there are plenty of holes in the firewall.

Anyway, I still want to do this so I guess I'm on my own. I want them wired to my cargo light switch (switch that controls light by 3rd brake light). I can see the wires beside the back door under the trim but is there a better place to tap into it at? Can someone verify which wire to use? Think its white with a brown stripe but can't remember for sure.

I had to prove to my other dealer that my 2011 could have travel link on the radio after they were very insisting that it was impossible. That guy didn't know what to say when I brought it to him after doing the update on my own. I'll make a special trip to show this tech that the lights cab be installed without drilling also. Lol.

No drilling required in my install. I put a switch in the bed, i am totally happy with a switch versus wired to cargo light.

There is all kinds of information on bed lighting. Just do a search and do some reading.

Mopar makes an under rail light kit. When I read the installation instructions i don't recall any drilling required. I know I've seen many other kits as well. Maybe the service tech just didn't want to take the time to do it right...

Can you take a day picture of your switch location? What wire did you tap into for constant power or did you run from battery?

Thanks. That's how I did it on my 11 also. Is the wire for the cargo light switch in that same harness?

Now that I see that I want to do some lighting. With the bak flip close the cargo lights are useless. What light kit is that I have seen tons of led kits but not a solid neon or cathode like that? How much was it?

I considered this also. The bed lights are around $35. But instead I bought 2 battery operated LED's and stuck them to the back side of the rear post/bed pockets. They work great and I've got $7 into them. Plus they are velcro'd so if I need a flashlight I just peel one off.
