Angry Whine on startup?

So this past winter I started hearing a "whining" noise every time I started up my truck. It is coming from inside the dashboard on the left hand side. It does however get a lot worse the colder it is. However it will always go away within a minute or so.

Also, I am pretty sure that it is not coming from under the hood, not a pulley or anything like that, and the heater on or off does not affect it at all. BUT if I turn the radio off (Power off) the noise will stop. Only to start up again when i turn it back on.

Any help would be great because I have no idea what the issue is

I have noticed the same thing this winter with my truck. My theory (theory only, I haven't investigated too much) is that it is something with the CD player- I don't have a CD in mine, so my thought is maybe it's the radio "looking" for a CD. Again, just a theory.

I have found something similar to this as well online. It said its has to do with there being a CD in the player. However it still does it regardless of there being a CD in the tray.

And to describe the sound a little better. it sounds like i motor or something cranking, the colder it is the slower it is. however if its a bit warmer it goes faster, then just eventually going away.

mine does it to. its the radio. as stated above its the cd player looking to see if a cd was inserted while the truck was off. the reason your hearing it when its cold is the little bit of grease on the gears is frozen. and we all know when its cold you can hear every little thing alot better. especially electric motors get louder the colder they get.

could be the alternator, or power steering, or also like stated above, just the radio/cd player
