Thanks I did not know that! I do have buy on my build sheet and the feature to see the current gear.

I not 100% sure on this, but from what I remember, I thought the ones built by Chrysler had a internal part that was stronger... other then that, I thought they were identical in hardware...

I still don't understand how Tip start would be affected by any auto transmission... Even one that was 10 years old. Autos are basically in neutral, when in Park, as are manual trannies (clutch pushed in). Tip start is just a matter of the ECM cranking the engine for you versus you keeping the key turned....

On page 275 of the User's Manual for the 2014 1500, the premium instrument panel shows both the gear you are in, and the highest gear you want it to be in.

I haven't tried it, but I'm guessing that if you are sitting still, and in neutral, you won't see a current gear, and may have to select "Drive" to see it.

my 13 with a v6 has tip start. and my tranny came from Germany. and I have not found a way to show what gear I am currently in only the way to limit it's top gear.

I can say for sure, I do not have tip start - I've tried it. I also do not have the indicator of the current gear, it only shows the "high" gear. If you look through the Build and Price or the sales brochure on the Ram, you see Tip Start listed with the 8HP70 but not the 845RE. It may not be a part of the transmission, but for whatever reason they are bundled.

BTW, if you're wondering, it's a Cummins with the Aisin transmission.. I had just filled up about 25 miles before hand... Tow/Haul activated and Exhaust brake on full.
Wow I wish I could get 57mpg.

LOL That's nothing!.. When I'm going down hill, I'm in the 90's... even in tow haul mode with the exhaust brake on..

I guess that's what a diesel will get you.. If you know how to take your foot off the peddle...

On the serious side, I get between 17.5 - 18.5 mpg avg, with this winter blend fuel.. Last fall, when I 1st picked up the truck, I was getting 18.3-20.5mpg avg. I'll get a better idea of how the truck really does, once we get back to summer blended diesel... Winter blend can really kill the mpg, depending on how they mix it to keep it from gelling. I also figure once the motor gets broken in ... at around 20k or 30K miles, I'll probably get a 1mpg bump...

I have a 14 blacked out express with 8 speed. I'm guessing that my EVIC is different than a sport or higher end models, I can't see the current gear. Should I be able to?
