Default 96 Ram 1500 issues

Hello I have a 1996 Ram 1500 with over 234,000 miles that has developed a few issues
This first issue has been going on for some time now. During heavy acceleration and when going up hills the airflow from the dash vents stops and only blows out the defrost vents and returns to wherever it is set after I take my foot off the gas. I have been told it is a vacuum leak but haven't bothered to trace it because I can deal with it and simply haven't had the time.

The next issue is also during heavy acceleration. When I take off slowly the truck will shift through all gears normally. If I put my foot to the floor it will shift into second and not any further until I let off. Going up hills it will jump directly from o.d. to second and stay there on hills I used to easily climb in third or without any down shift at all. The transmission was a rebuilt installed about 40k miles ago. I just had a service done including a full fluid swap and that did nothing for the problem. Could this issue also be caused by a vacuum leak?

The last issue is brake related. On my way home my brake warning light kept going on and off and the pedal didn't feel right. Vacuum related again?

I appreciate any other ideas or tips on any of these problems. Thanks

Hi! The heater issue is normal. During heavy accel, engine vacuum drops to near zero. The system is designed to send heat out the defrost, and keep the windshield clear in the event of zero vacuum for safety purposes. "You may get cold, but at least you can see" is the purpose behind that.
Trans, could be many things.
Brakes? Could be fluid loss. 2G Rams were notorious for rusting brake lines. Look for wet-spots along the frame rails, or splatter on the inside of the tires.

hey thanks for he reply. I guess I can live with the heat issue. I guess the transmissiin sounds like a trip to the transmission shop for a full diagnostic check up.. And as far as the brakes (I had a brain lapse I guess) I forgot to mention I had the steel lines replaced already after losing one and brake fluid is full. the light comes on for ten seconds or so then goes away but it keeps happening. This just started the other day and keeps happening.

For the brakes, were they bled properly?

That brake light thing is a new one to me. Perhaps look on-line and find all the things that COULD trigger it. Inspect the rubber vacuum lines.
On the trans, I am NOT a trans guru! But the simplest thing is to check for proper adjustment of the Throttle Valve, or "kick-down" cable. I always try to send someone to the basics first. I'm big on troubleshooting, not throwing parts at things.
