Default 58,000 Miles, New Tires & Alignment, or not.

My OEM Goodyear HP's had 58k on them and still plenty of life left on them but since the truck is going on 3 years old, I wanted to put new tires on it.

So I took it to Firestone because I wanted the Destination LE2's. I knew I was going to get the sales pitch for the different alignment packages so I just sat and listened because every time I've ever had it checked on other vehicles, it's always shown that I needed an alignment so assume I would probably need one.

I'm a firm believer that if you're not seeing any irregular wear patterns on your tires, driving issues etc., if the alignment comes back as being "not too bad but still out of specs", it doesn't need an alignment. My wife's SUV when I got new tires on it they said I needed an alignment and so I asked to see the printout from the computer and although it wasn't "perfect", it wasn't off by enough to cause any issues. They argued with me and tried to tell me I was going to ruin the tires blah blah blah. I left with new tires and no alignment.

50k miles later and the tires have zero signs of irregular wear and no drive-ability issues.

Back to my truck. The salesmen comes out and says that 10x's out of 10 they never see this but my truck was still dead on, he showed me the printout and nothing had changed since the alignment was set at the factory. Me being the consummate skeptic, I started to question this because how can it not be even a little out of spec with 58k miles and all the driving from state to state, bad roads in DC etc., and he said it was probably because of the big tires being able to absorb more impact from the road, pot holes etc.

I love this truck. Since I bought it new in 2011, I've only had one issue and that was replaced under warranty (the driver's side rear shock was leaking). I am impressed how well my truck was made.

Oh, the Destination LE2's are leaps and bounds superior to the HP's, at least with road noise, ride comfort and especially traction on wet road. Personally, so far, this is where these tires really excel.

Yep, we got a few inches of powder, but nothing compared what I see some in your neck of the woods got.

The day before the snow came, I took my truck in for a complete detail and won't be picking it up for another day or two when I know the roads are dry. We're in a deep freeze right now so nothing will be melting until Fri/Sat.

So, the new meats won't be seeing any snow this go round.
