Smile Big Brakes???

Hey anyone install a Big Brake kit? If so which one? I heard Bear & Brembo make one for us. Just wanted to see an installed pic & know how much better they bring you to a halt. I recently watched the American Top Gear pickup truck episode where they pitted: (Ram 1500 5.7 hemi w/ 8speed) (Ford F-150 Eco boost) & (Toyota Tundra)
They did a braking test 0-60 back to zero. The S.U.V. record holder is the srt* jeep w/ brembo brakes.
1st-up Ford w/ Tanner faust at the wheel. It stopped in the alloted space.
2nd- the Ram & it missed the mark by about 30ft! stopping way after it should've.
3rd- Toyota & they stopped the best w/ about 3 or more feet to spare. (Oh god I almost threw up in my mouth when I typed that!)
Any ways not being biased cause I've been cut off in big girl & she doesn't like to slow her self down as fast as I'd like her to. They aren't bad brakes but man is there room for improvement. In addition there were some variables I believe they could've addressed to make sure the Ram had a fair trial. a- the ram had an 8spd, way too much shifting to get her up to speed fast enough to allow for more room to stop in. b-I don't know if they had the traction control off or not & if they put her in sport or at least tow /haul. In the end it was driven by "The Stig" so I'm sure he wasn't being easy on it.

What tires do you have? Tires and pad compund have much more to do with emergency type braking than the actual caliper and rotor size. The larger brake sets do a better job of resisting fade over multiple close together braking events. Can you lock the tires up in a panic/hard brake? If so you need better tires not better brakes. That being said, I love big brakes and if you have the $$, and believe me they are big $$, I say go for it. A more cost effective alternative would be the SSBC kit which has 3 piston calipers and 15" rotors.

BTW, don't believe everything you see on TV. Check out multiple magazine test and TV show tests and you will see the Ram, F150 and Tundra all stop within a few feet of eachother on average.

Thanks for the ssbc info, ill check'em out. As for tv. magic I agree, thats why I pointed out that they may not have the truck set w/ all the right systems turned off or on while running said test. Personally w/ no proof just theory I believe the 5 & 6spd rams would do alot better at off the line running & getting the truck to 60 mph faster than say the 8spd would. No proof of this & haven't even researched it just my opinion w/ no factual basis at all.

In 6spd vs 8spd, if Ram has the engine torque managment set the same for both, the 8 speed will smoke the 6 speed. The 8 spd trans has a much lower first gear to get off the line and can keep the engine in the "sweet spot" at each shift because of the closer spaced ratios.

Psh, anything can burn my RAM off the line.

But I didn't buy a dragster, I bought a big ass 4x4.

I remember when I started driving my 81 F100. That thing couldn't stop worth a damn. I don't know if I just got used to that or what but this ram stops crazy fast IMO. But to each their own. I understand the want, but it's just SO much money for little gain.

"Smoke" meant in relative terms. Not compared to a sports car, top fuel drag car or fighter jet.

Agreed that tires make a huge difference. Also, consider slotted rotors, better pads like EBC, Hawk, etc, and stainless braided lines.
