Default Odd Sound Behind Rotary Knob

I'm noticing an odd electrical/grind sound behind the rotary knob when applying the break pedal out of park. Anyone have an idea of what this could be?

The actuator that releases the knob so you can turn it. Probably all of them make the noise to an extent with some being quieter than others. I never really noticed it on mine until someone asked the same question here earlier this year. Now I notice it every time.

Does it seem louder in cold weather?

Thanks, I definitely notice it more in the cold. If anyone else noticed this, please chime in. Thanks.

I picked up my MY13 in April and noticed the weird sound in the rotary knob. Dealer said it was a normal sound. I have noticed that the sound has diminished to the point it is not noticeable any longer. The noise is from the locking mechanism that prevents the shift knob from being rotated. The noise happens when the engine is running and you put your foot on the brake which unlocks the shift knob.

Yes, that is exactly what the sound is. The truck spends most of its time in 80 degree weather. However, recently I took it north (temps were 28-40 degrees), and I noticed the sound MUCH more than ever before. I wasn't sure if the cold impacted the surrounding plastic materials and made the sound more amplified or something. I was worried but dealer said it's normal. Again, I think it's less noticeable when the truck is warm (not only engine, but everything else). Thanks for the input.

Default mine does it too

I have a 2014 outdoorsman, 5.7 hemi, 8 speed trans. Mine did it the 1st time ( with less than 1,000 miles on odometer) when it got stuck in park and took almost a full minute to finally go into reverse. Ram dealer changed out both the rotary knob setup and the thing you put the "key" into. It did not help. It still makes the noise. It sounds like an actuator moving just above the key hole when ever I shift into or out of "PARK". Now they are telling me that this is "normal and that on some trucks it is louder than on others ".
If you take a box half full of Tic Tacs and tip it slowly to the side you can actually make the same sound.
Maybe it will go away in the summer?

I think I hear the same thing. It hasn't ever bothered me, I always assumed it was normal.
