Default 2014 Ram oem under bed rail kit for 5th wheel

The 2014 rear coil springs has thrown a wrench into the rail mounts by Reese. The 2013 mounts won't work and Reese has a part number for the 2014 but won't let dealers order as it's supposed to be in the test stage. So I read there is an adapter but it requires the ram oem under bed rail kit. What is that and anyone have a cost? Is it a factory only install? Chrysler did a buy back on my 2013 and it's 7 months now I haven't been able to tow. Thanks for any input.

If your truck was equipped from the factory with the 5th wheel/gooseneck prep, you only need to buy the 5th wheel hitch mounting frame (in bed adapter which looks to be removable). If your truck is like mine and does not have the production prep, then we have to wait for the non-production prep kit to be available.

Edit: There is the B&W gooseneck with companion 5th wheel hitch that will work on trucks without the factory prep, but I want to re-use my existing Reese 5th wheel hitch... and so I wait.

Just got a 5th wheel hitch(Reese 16K) installed in my new 2014 1500......

Yes, needs specific hardware......
Cost to me ....about $100.00 bucks extra for the dodge mount.
No factory install, aftermarket truck accessory place.

I didn't think 1/4 ton trucks and 5th wheel hitches even went together.

Thanks for the replies but it's about what I expected. No factory prep so I'll just wait more. Sure hope these coil springs are worth the change.

I'm curious on the 5th wheel in a 1500 model myself - what are you pulling?

the max payload for the 1500 is around 1600lbs (cc) or 1700lbs(std cab). so if I do the 'roughly 20% of 5th wheel weight is payload in bed' you could safely pull a ~8k 5th wheel.

a 25' elkridge is about 7200 lbs, so I guess if you didn't load up much it would work ok - but you'd be pretty close to max payload the whole time. Of course you could get the factory air suspension and auto-level, that would definitely help the ride...

who'da'thunk 1/2 ton trucks would be pulling 5th wheels...

I think the OP means the new coils in the 3/4 ton rams. I'm assuming that's what he has as it says mega cab.
