Default First Oil Change Approaching

I am at 4k miles right now and the computer says I have 63% remaining, should I wait for the message to say "oil change needed" or just go at 5k? Second question, I am in NJ and am debating if switching to synthetic is worth it. Not concerned with pricing between regular and synthetic on this bad boy more of long term pros and cons, and benefits.

I've always change mine @ 5000 using Mobil 1 5000 oil plus rotate tires that's just me.

Just go by the readout on the EVIC unless you do a lot of driving in very dusty conditions or really run your engine hard on a regular basis. People waste so much money and natural resources by changing their oil way to early.

If you aren't worried about the cost, then there aren't any downsides to switching to synthetic on a new engine.

Technically you are voiding your warranty then since Mobil 1 isn't certified to Chrysler's specs yet.

There is 1 thing drivers in warmer climates forget, the COLD weather.I always change my oil near the start of spring. If you don't drive more than say,1000 miles a month in the winter condensation will get in your oil.So, in my book it would depend on how long it took you to put on those 4000 miles. If it has been in the last 3 months,I would go to between 5-6000 miles before changing.

Yeah, I don't understand all this cold weather stuff. Why does cold weather make you get more condensation? Seems like the drier cold air would have less moisture available to create condensation.

I would go by your EVIC, changing at 4-5K is just wasting money and oil. Oil has come a long way with all the additives they put into it now.

I have a '09 Ram w/ HEMI
the book reads change motor oil & filter every 3,000 miles
I changed over to synthetic quite a while ago
I go 5,000 miles between changes, mostly because 5,000 is easy to remember, but also i am on the road a lot, i could get a call at any time to drive across the USA to do a job.
There have been times that i have had a oil change in one month & had to get another one in the next month, because i was already due mileage wise.
My dealership knows me quite well

I am considering ordering a Ram 1500 Diesel Quad Cab possibly in July, i use way to much gas with the HEMI

Default Oil analysis

Id also suggest having an analysis done on your first change, then every 25k after that. Looks for things like silicates, metal particulates....things that can be an indicator of premature wear. Its inexpensive (sometimes free), and worth knowing whats going on in your crankcase.
