Just did my first oil change at the dealership using Pennzoil Platinum and a Fram Ultra synthetic filter. I brought my own oil and filter in and paid $11 for the service. I only had 6000 miles on the odometer, but I wanted to get full synthetic in my engine sooner than later. I plan on going between 8,000-10,000 between changes from here on out.

Just follow the manual. If you're willing to follow it for anything else, then why not follow it for oil changes? If you have a 2013 or 2014, just follow the EVIC. Period.

If you choose to do more frequently, that's your personal choice, and not necessary.

Second what Country-Boy said. Just follow the manual/EVIC. I think I will specify synthetic oil for my truck, though, simply for the extra peace of mind I'll have. I put some hard time on a truck in the winter, with short trips the norm.

I am going by the EVIC. I have 5k miles and at 50% oil life. It looks like I will change it at 10k miles.

I try to do a first oil change at around 1000mi. I like to think that any extra metal that came off during the break in period would be in that oil and get flushed out. It may not be neccessary but I feel like it's cheap insurance.

After that initial one, I reset the EVIC and plan to follow it from now on.

I wouldn't wait for this oil life monitor to tell you its time. My change oil light didn't come on for the first time until 15,000 kms. I changed it WELL before then.

Did you reset the oil life when you changed the oil? There's absolutely no reason not to use the oil life indicator...they put it there for a reason.

...right from the owner's manual....

"Change Engine Oil
The oil change indicator system will remind you that it is
time to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance.
Refer to the “Maintenance Schedule” for further information."

I guess, up here in Saskatchewan, service department at dealerships wants to rip us off as they want us to change oil every 6000km regardless If I put Synthetic or not. I know cold weather is a factor here but it can't bring that much of a change in intervals.
