And now a word from your winner.....

I simply cannot believe I won considering who I was nominated with. Thanks to my fellow nominees: primo spaghetti, Canadian Hemi Pride, and TransEngineer. Thanks to the mods for doing a great job policing us. That cannot be an easy job considering what PaulMys and I can get on about when we are on a roll. A special thanks to PaulMys, Arth, Asur, Grubrunner, The Dood AKA RogerRamJet, GTyankee, Ka1ote, CajunDodge, Hermes1, Chunkem, gonefishin776, Warlock III, and brandonjansen for putting up with my annoying wheel and tire questions. I could go on and on. I would also like to give a heartfelt thank you to a group of people who we can never give enough thanks to for their sacrifices: The men and women of the United States Armed Forces. From the grandson of a vet and the son of a vet, I thank you.

I am happily divorced. I have no children. I do have two dogs: a Chocolate Lab-Mix (Emma) and a half Pomeranian, half Sheltie (Bella). Unlike the ex-wife, both are always happy to see me. They can be a PITA sometimes but I wouldnít trade them for anything. As life sometimes has a habit of doing, both were thrust at me. Bella was my ex-wifeís idea. A friend of the ex had forgotten to separate her Sheltie and Pomeranian when the Pom was in heat. Well, she got a surprise litter of dogs. My ex decided she was going to get one. I was against it because I had a large German Shepard named Cuervo at the time who hated other dogs. She won out. Cuervo tolerated Bellaís presence until he snapped at her for getting to close to him. She still has a small scar on her nose from him but she loved him and followed him everywhere. A year after the ex moved out Cuervo had a stroke and I had to put him down. That was worse than the divorce. Bella looked for him for two weeks. Then along came Emma.

Emma was a twice rescued dog. Once as a stray, the second time as a last minute reprieve before the dog pound. She was found walking around the City of Hibbing which is an hour and a half north of me. She was emaciated. My friendís wife took her in and she was fine for a few months. My friendís son was a little too rough with her and injured her tail. She didnít allow him near her again. She snapped at him and almost took his eye out. My friend called me in a near panic. He had to get rid of the dog because he was worried she would take his sonís eye out the next time. I mentioned that his son may have it coming. Being the friend he is he said he may agree with that statement in principle but he didnít want to deal with his wife the rest of his life if it did happen. That is how Emma came to live with me. She has never even hinted at having a temper. She plays with Bella every chance she gets and knows she can swat her around if she chose to. She chooses not to.

I have been in the restaurant business for 24 years. For the last 20 years I have been working for Grandmaís Restaurant Company in Duluth, Minnesota. I started at the flagship restaurant in 1993 as a smart ass line cook who thought he knew everything. I worked my way up to Expeditor (The wheel man or ticket reader.), Back of House Supervisor, and Sous Chef. In 2001 one of our stores was struggling. I was asked by the regional manager to go out there and see if I could fix some of the issues. Six months later I was given the title Executive Chef. I got married right around the same time. Seven years later I was divorced. In 2010 they decided to sell that store as it was steadily losing money. I was lucky enough to keep my job with the company. They sent me to the Italian Restaurant they own called Bellisioís. It is an upscale fine dining restaurant. I learned a lot there but just two years later they asked if I would go back to the flagship store as Senior Sous Chef. I couldnít say no. I was back where it all started.

I have had my personal and professional ups and downs with this company. I have fallen in love several times, married once and divorced once, all fellow employees I might add, while working for them. I have been very lucky to work for a loyal company. There arenít many multimillion dollar businesses where I can call up the President or CEO/Owner and say WTF? Literally. The owner is one of those people who, if you didnít know who he was, he would not stick out in a crowd. He is down to Earth, humble, and is always willing to actually work. When one of our stores was basically underwater due to flooding, he was right there pulling up floor boards along with everyone else. There arenít many multi-millionaires willing to get their hands dirty with honest work.

This Ram I currently own is the third and best one I have ever had. I had a new 1997 Dodge Ram Extended Cab SLT, a used 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport Regular Cab and now my new 2013 Ram 1500 Sport Quad Cab.

As some of you may know I have a slightly twisted sense of humor. This is one of the places I can show that and not be asked to leave. You know, like they do at WalMart? It is really gratifying coming to a forum where I can learn so much, ask dumb questions, constantly harass other members and not be flamed or shouted down like so many other forums. Most of you will understand when I say this site has cost me more money than my divorce. Only with a lot less swearing and wishing upon the other party the Ten Plagues.

Thank you all once again.

Sincerely,

Dave DeVault AKA DarthRam

Congrats Dave! Very well deserved win if I can say so myself. You are an awesome member to have around here, and between you and Paul have produced some of the most hilarious content I have read on the internet .. You do a lot around here, and a valuable member to all of us. It's fun having a member who brings comedy to the members, and can keep us entertained for hours. It's nice to see a deserving member earn the MOTM badge, and I hope you keep up the great work you do for all of us .
Congrats again.
