Default 4.7 challenged...

Just picked up an '02 with the 4.7, it was my old man's truck. Not much history on it, he's only had it less than a year and didn't drive it much. It has 105k miles on it.

It has a top end clack/tap when cold. Not sure if it's anything serious or not but I've got a splitting headache from all the reading I've done on this forum about it.

Is there a definitive answer on what oil to use on this engine?
I've always used factory Mopar oil filters and plan to continue unless there is something I'm not aware of that would suggest otherwise.
At 105k and basically no maintenance history what do you suggest I address or look out for?

Lastly just for shits-n-giggles...would a 5.2 or 5.9 swap be do-able without being a nightmare?

Oil is 5W-30, a good synthetic would be ideal. Mopar factory filters are shit. 5.2/5.9 swap would be a nightmare, 4.7 is a good engine if taken care of (like any other engine).

Ugh...been using Mopar filters for years with no problems.
What's the current filter of choice for Dodge V8'S?

I've never used Mopar, so I can't dis what I haven't tried. Heard good and bad on everything. I use Wix myself. Have also use AmsOil filters.

That's the tricky part. Everybody has different opinions on what's good or bad.
one guy will swear one brand is the best and the next guy will say that brand is junk and will ruin your motor in no time. Very confusing.
I'll stick with the Mopar for now, I'm just wondering about the oil. So many brands and opinions.
Mobil 1 full synth? Yay/nay?

Lots of Z members swear by Mobil 1 full synthetic. My preference is Royal Purple, but then again, that's my preference. As far as a yay or nay... I would say yay.

Personally... I run a Royal Purple filter because they claim a 99% filtration rate and in EVERY oil filter comparison video I have watched that filter smokes the rest.

Now because I drive a lot and I don't mind shelling out the cash for peace of mind I run Redline full synthetic oil.

However! Just to stay on target here I would say Mobil one is just fine for that 4.7. I would consider looking into the RP filters though...

I run 5w-30 with Mobil 1, Very happy with this set up. I think as long as the clicking goes away after it starts it should be ok.
