Default 2013 Pentastar 3.6L & 8 speed transmission 4x4

Dated 1-29-2014

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL N65 / NHTSA 13V-610

This notice applies to your vehicle (VIN: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx).

This interim notification letter is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic
and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Dear: (Name)
Chrysler has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in some 2013 model year
Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, and RAM 1500 series trucks equipped with a 3.6 liter engine, 8 speed
automatic transmission, and All Wheel Drive or Four Wheel Drive
.
The problem is... The transmission output shaft on your vehicle may fracture while driving. If
the vehicle experiences this condition there will be a loss of motive power. The
condition may also prevent the transmission from being shifted into the “Park”
position, the inability to turn off the engine, an instrument cluster warning lamp
illumination, and the vehicle could experience unintended vehicle movement
after exiting the vehicle. The above conditions could cause a crash under
certain driving conditions.

What your dealer
will do...
Chrysler intends to repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor).
However, the software required to provide a permanent remedy for this
condition is currently not available. Chrysler is making every effort to provide the
software as quickly as possible. The estimated date for the software is March 14,
2014. Chrysler will contact you again by mail, with a follow-up recall notice, when
the remedy parts are available.
What you must
do to ensure your
safety...
Once you receive your follow-up recall notice in the mail, simply contact your
Chrysler, Jeep, or Dodge dealer right away to schedule a service appointment. Ask
the dealer to hold the parts for your vehicle or to order them before your
appointment.
If you need
help...
If you have questions or concerns which your dealer is unable to resolve, please
contact the Chrysler Group Recall Assistance Center at 1-800-853-1403.
Please help us update our records by filling out the attached prepaid postcard if any of the conditions listed
on the card apply to you or your vehicle. You may also update this information on the web at
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
If you have already experienced this condition and have paid to have it repaired, please send your original
receipts and/or other adequate proof of payment to the following address for reimbursement: Chrysler
Customer Assistance, P.O. Box 21-8007, Auburn Hills, MI 48321-8007, Attention: Reimbursement. Once
we receive and verify the required documents, reimbursement will be sent to you within 60 days.

If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge and within a reasonable time, you
may submit a written complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,
1200 New Jersey Ave., S.E., Washington, DC 20590, or call the toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at
1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

I was in the dealer for another issue a few weeks ago. I was actually there the day the recall came out. My truck was identified as an affected vehicle but they didn't have any of the instructions and/or tools to check it or to do the repair.

They told me I will have a letter coming in the mail and to come back when I got it.

Haven't gotten anything yet.

Wow - I'm dealing with a warrenty issue with a repaint job (apparently the water based paint they use now isn't the best and my dapple silver Dodge is a good - or bad - example of that) I will have to get them to chase my VIN number and see if any of these things affect mine.
I towed a trailer full of hunting goodies 12 Hrs one way and the same stuff back with adding two moose in the box and had no issues so ??? - Hope this issue isn't one for my truck as I will never hear the end of it from my wife.

My sources found on the Web indicate it's the "ZF all wheel drive (AWD) 8HP45" transmission and thankfully a check at the dealership today showed there were no recalls on the VIN number of my truck ...... a very happy situation indeed.

Apparently there are 3 outstanding recalls for the 2013 Ram:
1. this Transmission issue
2. a software issue with the Electronic Stability Control (EMC) and
3. the Parking brake cable equalizer being set incorrectly and not able to hold the vehicle if on a 20% grade.

Sounds like the pentastar chargers, 300's that are all wheel drive and the rams with the auto 4x4 feature, which my truck doesn't have.

I have the standard 4x4 drive and not the Auto AWD 4x4.

I got the recall notice in the mail.

My Vin# on line shows I have the recall.
