Agreed... After watching the video two more times.

The coil in your truck must be activated by slip. Correct?

The coil in your truck could be activated by the t-case selector button. Correct?

But it would never be truly locked as it's only as good as the pressure across the plates.

** Note... after watching that video, owners should make sure they use the right fluid to keep those clutch plates/discs alive!

In a part-time case, the output shafts are locked (!) together with gears or a chain. There is no slip between the two. None. Nadda.

This On Demand case has a clutch pack between the two output shafts. There is slip between the two and it will increase as the clutch plates wear. Yup. And that is not what I expected when ordering my truck.

The frontend is always spinning ...the transfer case is designed to slip the clutch to avoid banging and harshness when the trucks on demand calls up 4wd situation. AWD On my truck (non clutch style) when I engage 4wd lock the case and driveline are now gear to chain to gear locked and will not slip no matter what .The only give is in traction.

The case in the video is not the unit in our trucks. It is a electromagnetic clutch that is designed to slip to split power depending on the conditions. If someone can find the exact specs for our case, rather than something lifted from an AWD SUV, then we can have a proper discussion. I myself cannot find anything on the 44-4X.

I dont know where certain people are getting their information, but I have had these T-Cases open twice. I assure you they use CHAINS AND GEARS for 4wd Lock and 4wd Low. The AWD is acutated with clutches, but is still chain driven. It is quite a complicated piece of machinery.

The case in the video is correct..

also I never said it did not have gears and a chain. the problem is it is not direct. It has a clutch witch is controlled by the traction control. your electronics control when and if you got 4wd. Just so you understand,if you blow a fuse for traction control you will not have 4wd. a loose wire can cause you to not have 4wd. a glitch can cause you to not have 4wd. Any time the computer feels like it you wont have 4wd.

on the other case once the electric motor turns the case to 4wd the electronics have no more input to the case. the case is now locked into 4wd .. I'm also not a fan of this case. but atleast if you have a electrical problem you can go under the truck remove three bolts and turn the case into any gear you like by hand.

p.s. armyofone .... yes the case has gears and a chain,but,all actions of this case must go through the clutches witch are computer controlled. 4wd low and 4wd lock also must go through the clutches.
