4 Wheel Auto for those who have it, is a limited 4 wheel function in which the rear axle must slip in order for the front to engage. How it does this is really moot.

As for the OP'S statement it is very probably as stated many times, the fact that they did not give the electronics of the transfer case a chance to send an OK to the trucks power train management system thus when the conditions were met the transfer case did it's thing and locked the two axles together.

Agreed, thanks for copying the information from the manual.

Dude, there's something wrong with your truck. I don't know how many other ways to tell you this. Time to see the dealer.

Hey could we get a few test subjects ...

try this it should answer the question ...

go to any open area and put your on demand transfer case (only the trucks that have the auto 4wd option) into 4WD LOW LOCK turn the wheel full right of left lock....now do NOT touch the gas and let off the brake the truck in 4wd low should have plenty of torque to drive on its own power in a circle. if its locked up the truck should start bucking and binding up. if not locked it will drive in a circle fairly smoothly. Now if you touch the gas it should bind up. On demand ..

Try it ...

Bart... When you do this, does it then stay locked up if you let off and do it over and over again?? Or does it keep unlocking and then lock up again each time you get on the throttle??

nope they unlock after gas is dropped. on off on off on off ...

TJC .. NO its not my truck ! I have tested this on two trucks so far. go out and test yours or goto the other site and you will see there is now a 12 page song and dance on that site with MANY people now talking about how theres is the same way. Some have contacted RAM and they claim this is normal and that how it is designed.

So you're asking us to go bind our transfer cases to prove your point? No thanks. You do know that it is recommended in the manual to shift the t-case while rolling at low speed with your foot off the gas right? I think that may be part of your "issue".

Thanks for the vid TJC, I have similar pants but they're blue instead of red.

Nice video..

Isn't part of us being Canadian is that we are required to own those pants, and similar style clothing items? Or am I alone on this one...
