Default 2010 Dodge Ram A/C not working

Took the truck to the dealer and the warranty is up. Im regretting not buying the extended warranty.

Anyway im looking for help on how to tackle the problem. nothing but hot air comes out. never cold.

Truck is a 2010 with 78k miles.

ideas or ways to start trouble shooting would be great.

Freon perhaps? on my way to buy a gauge to check it out

If it is low on freon, the compressor should still kick in momentarily. Does the compressor still kick in when you turn it on?

Does it stay engaged? If it does check the suction hose coming of the compressor, it will be the larger one. If there's enough refrigerant in there that line will get cold.

gauge indicates there's more than enough Freon.

But does the clutch on the compressor stay engaged and does the suction line get cold. If it does your problem is inside the cab HVAC box, door or something. There was a recall on the HVAC system for 2010 software upgrade or something.

suction line is cooler/colder than the other hose line. not freezing cold, just slightly cooler. the compressor stays engaged, I hear it running.

I think that the recall had something to do with the limits on door actuation, the control software was changed. Perhaps you have a broken Door. When you cycle between floor, vents and defrost does the airflow move as well to the appropriate locations? Do you have the auto hvac system? Here is a thread on the recall that may help sort out your problem.

I had the same problem with mine last spring. Ended up being a leaking Evaporator and they had to pull the whole dash out. Took them about a day and a half to complete. Has been working ever since but now I have a small whistle when I first turn on the AC that no one seems to know what it is.
