Default Preemptive coolant flush to avoid the shtink??

My truck should be here in a few weeks and the reports of the smell from the coolant / hoses / castings has me a little freaked out. If it's as bad as some people say it is, I'll be looking to burn it. Really.

So.... to try and avoid the possibility of having to burn my kewl new truck, would it be worthwhile to do a coolant flush after a couple hours of run time???

Thoughts??

could not hurt, make sure you use distilled water to mix with the anti freeze *which you can only get from the dealer, and it is expensive. do not mix it with any other or tap water.

You might be one of the lucky ones that doesn't have the problem. If they just replace the anti-freeze with new anti-freeze that is the same, I'm not sure that it would help. I'm hoping that if it was as simple as that, they would be doing that to all the trucks with the "Smell". It would be a relatively inexpensive fix. Good luck with your truck. Other than this hopefully temporary problem, I have been extremely happy with my truck.

I wouldnt do it. I never had the smell. If you do get a smell you can always get it flushed at the dealer under warranty.

So you can only use anti-freeze from the dealer? Can't just run down to the local auto parts and grab a couple gallons of anti-freeze? I think I might have the issue too as I have a propane smell coming form the vents when turned on.

Take a few minutes to read this: http://articles.sae.org/11284/
I don't believe there are any "approved" equivalents, since the formulation is secret (just like Big Mac special sauce). If you want to keep your warranty, play by their rules. I really don't think a pre-emptive flush, even with the right stuff, is going to help. It would be a waste of money, IMHO (at close to $50/gallon, and the system takes 4 gallons).

I wouldn't mess with anything. Right now everything is virginal .. you start messing around, and down the road, need warranty work you may be pooched. Especially if you get the stink and they recognize your work - they could just say you created the problem.

Stand down ..

well actually you need to buy 2 gallons and will have some left over (the dealer stuff has to be mixed, 50/50 ) and even if you pull the radiator hose you will not get all the old stuff out so a bit over a gallon is all you will need. (talking v6) unsure if the hemi holds more or not.
