I thought I read that Ram started using different hoses because the "stinky" ones were potential failures since their temp rating was too low? So it only affected the 1st build dates. Regardless, this isn't anything you should overly concern yourself with, since any issue would be resolved by the dealer.
My Ram did have an assortment of odors for the first 500 miles or so, but at 4,200 mi those odors have dissipated, if not ceased.
Also be mindful that the factory coolant MAY have additional lubricants used for break-in, like other auto manufactures.
Congratulations on the purchase and welcome!
Dom

Is the oat coolant supposed to smell bad normally, or is it supposed to smell like normal coolant? I have 175 miles on my 14 3.6 and don't have the smell. But I popped the radiator and took a whiff and it reeks.

Well it's not formulated to smell good; however if you keep on whiffing the off gasses you be caring much

I also was under the impression that they got this fixed. According to what I read it wasn't the coolant or the hoses causing the problem, it was the chemicals used on the engine during the manufacturing process that weren't properly cleaned off. Those chemicals reacted with the coolant or the hoses or both and caused the stink. Supposedly they are now making sure those manufacturing chemicals are removed and the newer trucks should be fine. I have 4k miles on my '14 built in December and it still smells like new truck.

I really hope you're right Apex. I heard the same thing, but nothing has been formally confirmed on what the fix was or when it was done.

In my mind, engine blocks and heads could have been cast quite a while ago in Mexico and are still making their way onto the line in Warren. ???

Apex, mine was built at the beginning of Dec. and it has the smell. It would be interesting to see how many forum members have trucks with the smell that were built from Dec. onward.

The reason I thought a preemptive flush may be a good idea is that the factory coolant could 'scrub' the chemicals from the castings and the flush/refill would get rid of that dirty coolant before it had too much time to interact with the hoses.

???

Ok gang just to clear the air. Excuse the pun. Zerex makes a Mopar compatible antifreeze. Screw the dealer man. It is called Zerex G03 it is sold in a 50\50 premix and concentrated also. I paid 18 bucks a gallon and we need roughly 5 gallons premix for our capacity and a little leftover for topoffs. But it was damn hard to find. I found mine at a US1 store in Patchogue NY.
