Yes, definitely drive by wire. The pedal sends a signal to the ECM which proportionally commands the throttle body. There is no mechanical connection, it's all done digitally. If the pedal assembly is sticking I would not hesitate to replace it immediately and I would not try and reproduce this at highway speeds. Only puts yourself and others at risk.

Next time turn off the key. There was a posting on here somewhere about stuck pedals. Asur tested the key off thing, truck is drivable even with electric power steering.

Ok, well couldn't reproduce it last night. Didn't really push trying, but just didn't stick.

I will just keep an eye on it for a bit and see if it happens on it's own and keep all these suggestions in mind............specifically to drop it into neutral and turn the engine off. Most importantly, I'll have to make sure not to panic, could be the worst thing I could do.

Thanks everyone for your input, I appreciate it.

^^^^. Exactly. People freak out when presented with abnormal circumstances. Stay cool turn the key back (it won't go back far enough to lock the steering wheel when it isn't in park). It's way easier and loads safer to assess the situation stopped on the side of the road than traveling at 80mph while over heating the brakes or banging the engine off the rev limiter than slamming it back into gear.

I was annoyed at all the Toyota stuff when people were running into things etc. Turn it off slow it down and pull over, simple huh? I have had throttles stick in drive by cable vehicles too so don't blame that. It's a mechanical/electrical machine it can and will fail at some point.

Be careful and good luck with fixing it!! The bas/abs light came on in my truck last week. That's the most fun I have had since I owned it . Turned out to be a shorted rear wheel speed sensor I found with an ohm meter. No more fun now.

Someone earlier mentioned checking the floor mats. Have you installed any aftermarket mats by chance?

I only ask because shortly after I bought my 2010 I installed some real nice carpet mats, can't remember the brand now unfortunately. But I didn't realize that the new mats were just a little thicker than the factory mat and when the pedal was depressed fully the very bottom edge of the pedal would catch under the edge of the floor mat causing it to "stick". I found out the exact way you did, while passing someone and had to quick pull the pedal back with my foot, not a fun feeling.

The easiest way to check it is to just stand outside the truck and move the pedal with your hand and see if it's close to the mat when depressed fully. It could be that the mat was pulled just a little further forward that day and was just enough to catch the pedal.

Hope that might help!

How clean was your floor board? I'd bet anything that it was a small rock that got stuck between the pedal and the slit where it joins. Probably just jammed and fell out soon as you pulled on it.

I know for sure that the 5.7L is electronic throttle, but not sure about the 4.7L.
