I have a 14' Outdoorsman with the V6 and 8 Sp auto. Manual says 1900Lbs payload, Ram Body Builder site says 1700Lbs payload, sticker on my door says 1380Lbs payload. Called Chrysler Canada and Chrysler USA and they said go by the Ram Body Builder site info. That being said, get stopped by the DOT or get in an accident and they will go by what is on the door. My question to the Customer Service People was, Why does my door say 1380Lbs if my truck can legally pack 1700Lbs (as per Ram Body Builder site says) They could NOT ANSWER THIS and to date (one month later) have NOT CALLED BACK!

Love the truck, so far, find all aspects of the service to SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My understanding is that the door is correct. The RAM Body Builder site is for a generic truck and is theoretically the most up to date versus the manual. The door sticker is specific to your truck and takes into account the weight of all the factory installed options on your truck.

Your truck has a Registered Gross Weight of 6800 lbs. That's the only number the DOT cares about. They are not about to unload your truck and scale your cargo. The door sticker means nothing legally.

Secondly the DOT is only concerned with commercial carriers. Not saying it will never happen, but I have never heard of them stopping a private individual.

The GVWR is the important number. The best way to find out how much you can carry is to go weigh your truck and subtract the actual weight from the GVWR of the truck and you will know the payload. In the real world it doesn't mean a whole lot. If the truck looks to be grossly overloaded someone may stop you but without commercial plates, not likely. If you were in a wreck and you were obviously overloaded, someone may take advantage of it in court.

Ya don't go by the door sticker that gives you the exact payload you have left on your exact truck. Warning labels on medications are just a guideline too. The sticker tells you your exact payload. It's not a guess. FYI. I live near Toronto and the OPP carry portable 4 corner scales now. They are cracking down on overweight vehicles. If your truck and trailer exceed or have the capacity to exceed 4500kg or roughly 10 000lbs you need a commercial sticker on truck and trailer. So towing a 3200lb plus trailer means you need commercial stickers. Almost every trailer that can hold dirt would put you in the commercial sticker range. Most people have no clue about these weight restrictions and sticker requirements and that is why they are cracking down on it now.

Default 2014 1500 payload

fireboy, commercial stickers and license come into play when the trailer is over 10000 pounds not the combined weight. And the opp do not carry scales. That's MOT's jurisdiction.

I live in BC Canada, here we have a thing called ICBC for insurance. It is run by the Goverment. Trust me when I tell you, if there is any possible reason they can viod your insurance they do! Get in an accident overloaded, and they will viod your insurance and sue you to pay for any damages. Also here, our DOT is called CVSE and yes they do carry out Blitzes on everyday vehicals for anything from tires and windshield cracks to payload and securement of payloads. Thats why I DO NEED to know what my truck is LEGALLY allowed to pack, NOT a HE said SHE said becuase this would not hold up here.
