Default Help tapping into reverse light for backup camera

I am installing a new reverse camera, and tapped into drivers side reverse light. Red wire to truck white and red, and black to black. camera came on for one moment but will do nothing now. Could i have tapped into wrong wire?

Check your connections.

Is this the OEM camera or an aftermarket camera?

Does your reverse light still work? Check the specs on the aftermarket camera and see what voltage and amperage it takes to operate.

You might try connecting the wire for the camera to the 7 pin trailer connector. The center pin is backup lights for a trailer.

Didn't work. It seems the camera just isn't getting the power it needs.

The reverse pin on the 7 pin trailer plug has more than enough power to run the camera. I would check to see if you have power to the camera and check the ground wire also.

You may have a bad camera.

The reverse light wires wont work ..

you need to use the trailer pins. look under the truck and remove some of the black tape. In the wires find the orange/white wire(its the center of the 7 pin ). thats the 12 volt hot reverse wire. then for ground I like to just use a ring fitting and go right to the frame from one of the bolts back there. you can use the reverse light ground wire or the thick black wire in the trailer plug.
