Exclamation WARNING: Vararam Air Grabber NOT compatible with snow conditions!

Please read! Vararam Air Grabber should NOT be considered by users living in snowy climates.

I don't recall any discussion on how the Vararam Air Grabber worked in snowy winter conditions, so I thought I better warn others of the experience I am having right now.

I'm going to post some images below, with comments above each and that should say it all.

I came outside after a 24+ hr blizzard to find this under my hood. Obviously snow is either tracking in from the gap between the hood and body, or more likely it is being driven in the grill and up into the Air Grabber tray.

Today, AFTER having cleared that snow above after it's discovery, I headed into town. 45 minutes of driving on the hwy with NO blowing snow this is what I saw when I lifted the hood in the restaurant parking lot. I spent the next 20 minutes meticulously cleaning the snow from the entire tray. MOST of the work was trying to brush the snow AND ice buildup out of all the pleats in the filter. I was carefully, painstakingly, using my snow scraper brush in a downward flicking action.

Directly after cleaning everything quite thoroughly I drove 45 minutes home. Again on the hwy with NO blowing snow (THANKFULLY!). Once home, I immediately lifted the hood to discover this!

Obviously the Vararam Air Grabber is NOT compatible with snowy, winter climates & conditions. PLEASE factor this into your decision to purchase this item.

Conclusion: I have NO choice, I feel, but to remove the Vararam ASAP. I'll have to return the STOCK intake until I can research alternatives. Either an entire swap out, OR using the Vararam as a SEASONAL CAI exclusively.

Hopefully this helps the next guy considering the Vararam Air Grabber, and who lives in any sort of snowy region.

Cheers,

Var

Thanks for the heads up, OP! This made my mind up to stick with my sealed factory airbox...as much as I love the looks of the Air Grabber, I can't afford an issue like that. I get a metric shit ton of snow here so AG is a no go!

Thanks for posting!

And how can you argue with that!

This warning serves to save Vararam $$ on returns, and potential customers their time.

Var, and you wonder why I don't like their intake. I had a little snow in my AirAid/Suncoast ram air hood setup but nowhere near that amount. Could you imagine if you went for a few hours drive in bad weather? Then think about how much water you'd pull in on the roads during a rain storm or during the spring melt.

After a number of years doing some hardcore off-road I don't mess with open element air filters any more.

Stock intake with drop-in K&N for me.

I have a custom outer wears cover headed my way with the water repellant added. I always had my doubts about ram air and snow but if this does fit should solve the problem, always had good luck on deep powder sled intakes anyways.
