It is clear from the images that this unit was in a severe snow storm. You can clearly see snow outside of the intake system by the firewall on the driver’s side, on top of the fuse box etc... If you were to operate in these conditions you would need to remove the front wing of the system so that snow is not scooped into the system.
In a blizzard type snow storm such as this an OEM air-box will also have snow buildup inside of it. In high wind conditions (with snow), the truck becomes a high pressure zone. Any cracks or openings represent lower pressure areas. The Snow will work its way into every cavity on the vehicle (as you can see in the images) the weight of snow makes it unusual because it’s much lighter than water, dirt, dust etc… If you had checked a truck with an OEM air-box in the same storm you would have found a substantial amount of snow inside the air-box. Snow can and will clog Any OEM intake, as many have seen on the news lately in the northern states. Snow does not care if you drive a Honda, Mercedes or a Truck, if its blowing hard enough it can clog up any intake.

Vararam

Steve,

Thanks for the quick reply and your attention on this first of all. I'll give you a call tomorrow to arrange a return to Vararam. If you can honor paying for shipping both ways then I, as a customer, will be much further ahead going through you. Bully's has it's own distinct return policy, and returning it to them will see me incurring shipping costs both ways which exceeds $100.

In the meantime can you please re-read my original post, and 'when' each photo was taken. I don't want you to think they were all blizzard related photos. They are not. Photo's 2, 3 & 4 were taken after hwy driving with not a single snowflake in the air.

Thanks very much!

Var

Default Return

When you order thru a dealer you have to return to the dealer and honor their policies. We sell to our dealers at "dealer" pricing and credit them accordingly on any return. Best to order direct from us to take full advantage of our very liberal return policy. Dealers usually sell for a very good price (below our normal retail) and assume the responsibility -this gives you a less expensive price .

i think for those who has that type of filter, it would be better and safer to take it off during the snow months,..

and then re install when the snow is gone

I was in a local parts place yesterday, and I think the guy mentioned another customer has one and runs it in the summer exclusively. I may have considered that but I knew I wanted something other than stock AI and the thought of shelling out another $300+ for a winter intake couldn't be accommodated.

I've go the LMI short ram intake coming and am sourcing a waterproof pre-filter right now.

So if it's something you want, then you can at least run it for 2/3's of the year which is great for those willing to run stock for hte other 1/3.

Cheers,

Var

I was loving your setup and I am still considering getting this mod. MY question is, how does it do when it rains a lot? I live in Guam where it is 90 F year around. Only thing we have here is a rainy season and a lot of typhoons coming through.

Order one, and then run a S&B or green filter in the stock box in the rainy season. I wanted something I could run year round. If this isn't something you mind doing, then I'd definitely look at the Vararam.

I will definitely miss it...
