Default Whistling noise from engine?

Hello all,

I have not posted here in quite some time (wasn't a particularly active poster to start..) but I feel like this is the best place to go for this question. It should be noted I am not particularly handy with things especially vehicle related tasks (I can drive it and pay others to take care of it)

I drive a 02 1500 with a 4.7 engine in it and about 156k miles.

A couple of months ago, the truck started doing this weird thing on idle, where it would just rev up. I went to a shop, and the guy said he did some changes regarding the air that was coming in (on the computer or something of the sort). This did fix the high idle, and the vehicle as a whole began to idle smoother. However, the idle would sometimes drop (from about 500-600 to about 300-400) and I did not like that much. Needless to say, I liked that mechanic, but he was just to far away.

So, I went back to the guy who I normally used (i stopped for a while after they replaced all of breaks and my breaks would just not stop squeaking after "repair"). They said it's probably the TPS (which i had replaced about 26k miles ago), and so I went with that. This did not solve my problem at all, and in fact it made it worse. At one point at idle, the engine was just reving up and down.

So i went to another, closer fellow. He recommeneded the IAC be changed. Sure enough, I went with that. It starts smoother now (for the most part) and it also idles smoother, although it did not COMPLETELY eliminate the low idling issue. When I stay at idle sometimes, I can feel it getting ready to drop. I give it a touch of gas, brake, and it then stays at about 650 rpms, fairly smooth.

The issue that has arisen since I replaced the IAC is a strange whistle coming from the car. When I start, the whistle is there. It is also there when I accelerate but let off the gas (my pipes are too loud to hear if there is a whistle when I am pressing the gas). So in other words, directly after an acceleration, while not pressing either gas or brake, the car whistles. When the brakes are pressed, the whistle ends.

So... my question is if any one on this forum may perhaps have had a situation like this, and if you have any suggestions? I dont want to keep bleeding money into it but I also hate having the sound there..

Thank you!

Does it whistle when it's idling? And is the truck in park or in gear? Or does it only whistle when you are moving?

Truck is in gear, while driving only. No whistle at idle EXCEPT at start-up.

So im driving down a straight road pressing the gas, letting off the gas, and at that point i hear a whistle.. hit the brakes a little, whistle stops.

Without inspecting your truck or hearing the whistle, I would guess that your brake booster vacuum line has a bit of a leak somewhere.

Vacuum leak would be very likely. Why wouldn't a professional mechanic check for a vacuum leak on a vehicle with an idling and revving problem?

Just cause you're a professional mechanic doesn't mean you're a competent mechanic...
