Default Rust Warranty Interpretation

Under Corrosion Warranty, my booklet says:

This warranty has two time-and-mileage limits.
  • For sheet metal panels, the limit is 36 months, with no mileage limit.
  • For an outer-body sheet metal panel - one that is finish-painted and that someone can see when walking around the vehicle - the limits are 5 years or 100,000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first.
I'm trying to figure out if I fall under the 5 year / 100k mile bullet point. Here are two pictures showing where the rust is. It seems to be very early, but it's definitely there. Do I have 5 years on this rust?

By the way, the other side of the truck looks the exact same in the exact same places. I haven't brought it in yet, but I have an appointment scheduled to have the dealer look at it.

Any idea how they would go about fixing this?

Like most rust/corrosion warranties, the coverage applies to perforations or holes that develop as a direct result of corrosion. In other words, rust spots are not covered. The panel has to rust completely through within the warranty period for there to be any coverage.

Do you think this is something to be worried about? How can I stop it from growing? It's not rusted through at all, it's mostly just discolored.

You'd think that the dealer would "fix" it before it became a hole and more difficult to fix.

They will happily fix it, of course, it is unlikely they will do it under warranty. Best practice is to actually talk to the dealer, which OP stated he was going to do. They may help him out a little or a lot. depends on the situation.

Just don't go in with the attitude that they owe you something under warranty right now, because they probably do not. It sounds like OP is doing the right thing on his end, so we will see what the dealer does for him.

If i bought rust protection and warranty, i would not accept it at all. I would have them fix it asap!!!
