And now a word from your winner.....

"Don't be humble, you're not that great...."

Golda Meir
Israeli (Russian-born) politician (1898 - 1978)

When I sat down to compose this short essay, I took a moment to look up definitions of "humble". Some were fitting, but most were too drab for expressing what I was feeling. I expanded my search to include quotes, and in particular those fusing the concept of being humble with a little humour. Well, when I stumbled across Golda Meir's quote above, it instantly cracked me up. It perfectly encapsulates all that I feel right now, standing before you all, accepting the February 2014 MOTM. Just the right fusion of self-deprication, humor and ... humility.

Last fall I began investigating the new diesel 1500. I scoured the furthest recesses of the web, amassing as many links as I could along the way. My wife and I live the better part of an hour from town and we have always been a one vehicle family. Problem was the old gal was getting rough around the corners, and had recently developed a bit of a shudder. In November we took it in to the dealership and came back in the afternoon to hear their appraisal of the problem. Honestly they didn't know .. they had ideas, but they would need more time with it to get a bead on things. While we stood there, though, listening to the service manager fill our heads with about as much fear mongering BS as we could take, we both sighed, and I said 'you know what? Lets just buy a decent used car so we have something as back up while the truck gets fixed. My wife instantly countered - 'Screw spending money on a used car! Lets buy the truck NOW!!". "But.....the diesel isn't even out yet". "Doesn't matter" she retorted "lets get the HEMI!". God I love my wife We left that dealership, and drove directly to Dodge and to make a long story short we had our new RAM a few days later. We honestly could not have been happier!

I say we.....

The "I" in "we", however, had been stricken with an acute mod paralysis! Day upon day my mind remained stuck in a quagmire. Visions of lifts, wheels, throttle bodies and tuners danced in my head. I HAD to find a cure. I hopped back online and began banging away on Google trying to source the items .. no the 'cures' to my (mod)disease. I can almost guarantee you that if I went back into my downloads folder where all my 'right-click-saves' go, I would find a pile of amazing RAM eye candy discovered through Google image searches; most of which Google was sourcing from this forum. I caught on to this tidbit before long, and began pouring through the sub-forums here, honing in on the various cures to what ailed me. The elixirs were plentiful and before long I was hooked...

Hooked not only to the idea of building my new RAM into the beast I wanted it to be, but hooked on the great community that surrounded me here. The fabric, of which, was as tightly knit as I'd ever come across. Rather than folks being riddled with sarcasm and the words no newbie wants to hear - "use the search function!!", I found warmth and camaraderie . I found family. I found a home. At every turn I saw helpful advice, humor, technical savvy and countless charismatic souls. This was a place I wanted to hang my hat, I thought. Before too long I realized that some members were supporting members, and I knew that was something I wanted to do. It, to me, was a no brainer. How could I continue to wring great advice and information out of this forum for free? Being incredibly new to Dodge, I realized that becoming a supporting member was, in that moment, the best way to express my gratitude then and for all the benefits the forum would bring to me in the coming months, and years. At the cost of two medium coffees a week, it was the best bargain I'd seen in a very long time!

Well, fast forward to present, and after modding under the watchful eye of several mentors here at a frenzied pace, my truck is very nearly complete! I could NOT have enjoyed the success of my RAM's growth and transformation without my investment in this forum, it's collective knowledge, and the warmth and encouragement of everyone involved (either directly or indirectly).

So, while I can candidly submit to you all, that I am really 'not that great', I can also stand here before you humbled in your presence, and offer my most heartfelt gratitude for your kind words, and overwhelming support.

Your brother,

Var
