Default Oil change

After 5500 miles I went in to get the beast serviced. Pennzoil ultra 0-40w is what went back in it @ $9.95 a quart!!!! That is the only oil that mets standards so pull out your checkbook fellas.
I normally do my own service work but the local dealership sent me a coupon. Oil change up to 5 quarts, top offs plus tire rotation for $29.95. When I saw the bill, I almost shat myself. But then I realized they only charged for the extra 2 quarts of oil. I bet that deal doesn't last long......

Dealerships advertise oil changes to get folks "in the door" so that they can hit you with up-sell items. And since most folks don't take care of their vehicles like they should, it's usually a good money maker for the dealership.

Due to my obsessive compulsive disorder, I did my first oil change at 1500 miles. It was about $80 at my local Kwik Kar lube (this one is awesome). I wanted to do the first change myself but could not find the oil anywhere except Amazon.com, so I took it to this place as I have the rest of my vehicles. All future changes I plan to do when the evic tells me to.

This is just an FYI that I thought would fit in a 6.4L oil change thread.

The stock Mopar filter is # 4892339AA
WIX is 57060 and 57060XP(synthetic media)
NAPA (WIX) 47060

Disclaimer; verify the part numbers.

Correct. 0W40 that meets Chrysler spec MS-12633. Right now only Pennzoil Ultra and the Mopar labled version meet the spec. Yes, there are a few other 0W40 oils but they do not currently meet spec MS-12633. I spoke with a tech at Mobil and he told me that they have not tested their Euro Formula 0W40 to MS-12633 nor was it on their testing schedule.

The only implications of using an oil that does not meet spec MS-12633 would be IF you had engine issues related to lubrication. I suppose the MDS could be considered in that category. You might have a warrenty coverage issue if you can't provide proof of using an oil that met spec MS-12633.

I spent a bit of time trying to find 0W40 oils that meet MS-12633. I didn't have any luck other than with the Ultra and Mopar oils. If anyone has found another brand please post. Personally, I use Amsoil XL 5W20 in my wife's '14 Durango R/T 5.7L. The XL meets the required MS - 6395N for the 5.7L Hemi. Unfortunately Amsoil does not make a 0W40.

Call them up or talk to your dealer and suggest that they start making it now that the 6.4L is in production.
