Check your manual. Here is the wording for the 1500 with the 5.7 hemi:

We recommend you use API Certified SAE 5W-20
Engine Oil, meeting the requirements of Chrysler Material
Standard MS-6395.

They "recommend' but do not require it meets the spec. I assume your wording will be the same, but you could check.

Any major brand oil in the correct viscosity would be fine.

Well.. I called the Amsoil tech line. He said that the recommended oil from Amsoil would be the European Formula Full Saps 5W40.

You guys that have changed the oil...since the filter is horizontal, can you prefill it without much trouble?

Does anyone know the Mobil 1 extended oil filter part number? I think it's M1-113 but want to be sure.

The Penzoil 0-40w may meet the Chrysler standard for wear protection but that is to thick of an oil for our engines if its the 5.7, especially with the cylendar deactivation system. It relies on 20w oil to work properly as the special valve lifters use the oil to "turn on and off" the four cylendars. I would not hesitate to use any of the modern dino or synthetic oils of the proper weight in this engine. It costs the manufactures alot of money to certify their oils so some of them lag but rest assured their oils will meet the new standard.
