I have to admit that I am normally more on top of maintenance but have not been where the tires are involved. The tires where not rotated for 27k miles and there is some feathering on the outer edges. It is not bad but there is some. The mechanic and shop foreman both think it could be the tires, but even they were not totally convinced.

When it comes to the goodyear HP's, they are garbage no matter what you do. I've had two rams and three sets of those sucky tires and have had nothing but problems. They cup, they slip belts, and blow out no matter how many times you rotate them. They are just garbage.

I might take the tires and rotate them back this weekend to see if it makes any difference, otherwise I'm going to wait and see what happens.

Thanks

had a similar problem on my 98' accord, not 4x4 but fwd.

run your hand on the inside of both wheels, if you end up with grease on your hands it could be the boot on one of the axles is either ripped or not completely sealed. The shop you took it to should have been able to tell this right away but it doesn't hurt to check right?

Well, I took it back to the dealer, and told them about the problem. The listened to it and said that it wasnt a good sound and would take care of it. So I got a free rental. I only had the truck for 24 hours. On my way out, I stopped at the desk and asked for a copy of the trucks service record. And the lady emailed it to me.

I come to find out, that a week ago, the previous owner had taken the truck in (March 8th) for the same sound. And that it was a torn CV boot. Well.. on my drive, the boot was tore open, and the joint was coming appart. It was even a recomended fix on the Previous owners last "Peace of mind Inspection". It was traded in and passed a safety inspection that way... Untill I brought it back in.

Now that I have the service history, I see that the previous owner too very good care of the vehicle, on time oil changes, and all the suggested serviceing. Except on the last "Peace of Mind" there is a laundry list of things to be done. Sway bar bushings, PS Flush, Alignment, Trans flush, 4x4 service, Tune up, Injector Flush, and Torn CV Boot.

Yeay for Stealerships eh?

Well safety inspections in my book are about as valuable as a screen door on a submarine. In all of my years of dealing with cars; inspections carry no weight in my book. Now it was rather shady of that dealer to know what it knew, inspect and resell a vehicle that they knew was about to loose a wheel. I would be livid to say the least.

As for all of the fluid flushes, I tend to ignore those as that is the dealer's way of making some easy money. The only thing that I do is change the axle fluids at the recommended time frames and I have found that tune ups on the Hemi engines do need to be done every 30k miles. With your truck having 100k miles; I could see where it was due for some bushings and possibly even ball joints and tie rods. I can even see that it would need CV joints.

Good luck

haven't heard that one in awhile! used to use it all the time.

ON a side note I had an odd roar with a jeep 5.9. drove me bat crap. Ended up being the front drive shaft. something was just enough out of spec that it roared when under just the right amount of load. Drove me nuts for years, and ended up getting fixed by default when I slammed the front shaft into a rather large rock....
